5.0 out of 5 stars Kwik-Stop works
My dog's nails are solid black and I occasionally misjudge when cutting them. I tried a gel variety but found it messy to use. With this you can put a little in the cap and if you nick the nail's quick you just press the nail end into the powder and it stops the bleeding right away.

The item arrived unsealed (as in the product is not sealed under the cap) with the powder around the outside of the cap and the bottle half empty (though none inside the cardboard box.) It's going back for that alone. Who knows what the powder is since the company doesn't care to seal the container for what is, in essence, a topical medical product. The powder inside...

No pun intended but this works quick. I rarely clip into the quick but this is the best product to stop the bleeding when I do. Flour and/or corn starch will work in a pinch but this is best.

Their nails can bleed quite a bit if you cut too far. My dog has black nails so you can't see the vein inside. When she came to us (a rescue) her nails were neglected. I cut them just a bit every two weeks so the vein could recede, as our vet directed, until they were the right length. Even so, I get a bleeder every once in a while and the powder stops it immediately and permanently. Even the time my dog licked it off (I was distracted by someone at the door). I have used this for years and you simply must have it.
PS I'm an adult BTW.

Styptic powder... I know it's for animals but I added it to my first aid kit.
You might want to stick a large cotton ball in the container as that's how you apply it and seal the lid with tape.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for pet owners!, September 12, 2011
This review is from: Kwik-Stop Styptic Powder .5 Ounce (Misc.)
Having owned guinea pigs, cats, and dogs, this product is a lifesaver. It really does work! I've heard that cornstarch and flour can also work, but I have tried both of those to no avail. I have had to reapply this product a few times on a nail that was continually bleeding slightly for more than a couple of minutes, but it would've taken a lot longer to stop bleeding without this magical powder. Buy it-you won't be disappointed!

I cut my dog's nail for the first time a little too deep. Blood started gushing. I never thought this would happen since I am so careful but it did. Good thing I had purchased a can of this just in case. Never thought I'd need to use it but it was there in case of an emergency. I quickly grabbed it. Put some on his nail which was dripping blood on the bed and it immediately stopped bleeding. Good to have some laying around. I might just try it on myself if I get a bad cut someday. I swear this stuff could stop a severed arm from bleeding! Just kidding, don't try it on yourself. Does work well for dogs nails though seriously.

I feel very confident that this product works as advertised. I trim the nails on two beautiful dogs and was really afriad on cutting too close the quick. I researched many products and this one has great reviews. The only problem was that the packaging was very sloppy and a lot of the spilled out when I opened the package.

Great Price and Great Product!!

It's going back for that alone. Who knows what the powder is since the company doesn't care to seal the container for what is, in essence, a topical medical product. The powder inside could be laundry detergent by appearances and applying it to a wound seems ill advised. I have no idea whose problem this is, Kwik Stop or Amazon (the seller), but all buyers should be aware.

when i opened this product to get ready to use it, i discovered it had been previously opened and there was dried material (looks like dried blood mixed with the powder) around the top rim of the bottle. also, bottle was 1/2 empty ("may" be due to settling, but HIGHLY suspicious because the bottle was NOT sealed and the dried material on the edges!). shipped from amazon and they won't let me return product (returns expiration 2 weeks ago).

I haven't had to use this yet, thank goodness. But, it's nice to have around just in case! I always pour some into the lid before clipping my dogs' nails, so it's ready in case of an accident. The lid is kind of rubbery so it's easy to take off and put back on. Comes with plenty of powder!
