I have three different brands of these pumps, and the difference seems to be in the sturdiness of the hose (prone to kinking or not) and the little tabs that hold the hose in place. So far, this is the best of the three pumps. The cheaper one works OK, so don't bother spending more money if you only use it now and then. If you use it frequently (like on weekends to blow up pool toys or a boat), then you might want to consider this one, because it seems to be a little better made. It works great for mattresses and for my inflatable boat.

Easy to use and good enough!,

I have an inflatable boat. I fist bought a battery pump for it but two things came up. First one of the heads of the pump house was broken and second i sometimes forgot to charge the battery (because the pump should have been charged every time). So I had problem when everything was ready to use the boat except the pump! I decided to but a foot pump not only to reduce the risk of having problem with the pump battery, but also to accelerate my work. It was pretty cheap and at the same time very useful. I have used it a few times now and think it is good enough. Simple technologies are always more reliable!

I HAD A SIMILAR ONE CAME WITH MY INFLATABLE KAYAK (BOUGHT 4-5 YRS ago)GOOD STRONG PUMP;EASY TO USE; TRIED NEW ONE 2 WEEKS AGO; HAPPY WITH PURCHASE; ONLY PROBLEM WITH "THESE" TYPE OF BELLOW FOOT PUMPS---THE METAL BAND TOP & BOTTOM WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK(TEAR) THE CLOTH MATERIAL; I USE DUCT TAPE TO PATCH UP THE TEARS & USE THE OLD PUMP AS A BACK UP; "GOOD VALUE & FAST DELIVERY" WILL BUY SAME AGAIN !!!

Fabric Ripped First Time Out,
By California Mom (Northern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kwik Tek Airhead Bellow Foot Pump (Sports)
On the PLUS side: Not a bad bellows, works well and has a nifty little closure clip right on the hose; you can't lose it. Comes with several nozzles and adaptors. On the MINUS side: the edge of the bellows fabric ripped the first time I used it. A bit of duct tape and we were good to go again. You shouldn't have to repair a new piece of equipment - but honestly, it was easier to slap on a bit of tape rather than box it up and send it back - and hunt for a new footpump.

This pump worked great for first couple of times I used it but within a few weeks of receiving it, it failed me twice during the same trip to the river with my inflatable boat. First one of the metal bands holding the bellows fabric slipped off and allowed the air to escape the bag. I managed to get this fixed in the field with a screwdriver I just happen to have on a multi-tool. Later once I was on the river I tried to pump up an inner tube only to find a tear in the side of the bellows right below the metal band that did not fail. I did patch the hole but it has not held. So after less than a month the pump is almost worthless.

There are some problems in life that are best solved with a simple solution.
Perfect for inflatables. No bells and whistles, what you see is what you get!

I looked at a bunch of these. This seems to be the best built one, a few reviews talk about how it broke on them, they probably got a lemon. These aren't built for professional use (what would that be for these anyway? : but have held up for my needs on a pontoon boat in the summer with a few friends and kids.

Good Pump but Could Use a Bit More Tech Support,

I know ... what a crazy title for a review ... who needs tech support for a little bellows foot pump? Well, obviously I do. I ordered this item to inflate the relatively small float bag in my hard sided kayak. I'm probably the least mechanical person on the earth and the pump didn't come with directions. After I finally figured out how the pieces would likely fit together, I discovered (totally by accident) that there are inflate and deflate holes in which you insert the hose. (I know, some of you are out there just shaking your head at this point.) It worked like a charm and inflated the small float bag in about 10 easy pumps of my foot. Unfortunately, it's just overkill for my needs -- it's large for my use -- I don't want to haul a piece of equipment this size around in my kayak (Yes, I should have checked the dimensions before I bought it) and it's hard for my smaller hands to store (it takes some dexterity and strength to deflate it, wrap the hose, and put on the clips).
If you have larger inflatables -- small boats, mattresses, etc. & if you have the storage room required where you are using it, this is a good product. I would have given it 5 stars but seriously, could it have killed Kwik Tek to slip in some instructions for those of us who've never used a pump before? I won't give anything 5 stars unless it comes with instructions. I'll probably keep this item around the house for use on the grandkid's inflatable pool toys. But, I'm going hunting for something much smaller, more portable and more easily storable in my kayak for my use.

I was so happy to find this great little bellows. I had searched lots of places before thinking about Amazon. I bought it to put air in my water floats for the pool, saves me alot of hot air, huffin and puffin. You will love it..and at a great price.

I use this to inflat my AE Advaced Frame Sport kayak to full pressure (2psi), and I know I've hit it when the air hisses out between the band and the fabric. In short, it does what I want it to, it's portable (disassembles to the tube + bellow, stowable on the kayak during the trip!), and it's a lot cheaper here than you can find from other vendors. As others have mentioned, I do believe it is probably all the same product.
The fabric is pretty durable, but I can see how rough handling, or pinching inside the bellow might rip a hole. I haven't had that problem yet, since I read other reviews before buying, and try to watch for it while I pump. My only real concern is the metal bands, which do indeed appear to be slipping off, no doubt from maxing out the pressure and pushing for more. I adjust them back in place best I can before and afterward, and they have not failed me yet. Also, near the max pressure, air seems to come out of where the hose meets the outflow hole, but I'm not sure if this is due to a true bad fit, or some grains of sand, or that its possibly not screwed together tight enough. This product would have been perfect if the securing bands were solid and air-tight, and the bellows part had a relief valve at 2psi or something similar. But it's a good value, overall. |
