Very Very sturdy and well made.
J. M. Wck
It was easy to extend to full length, and was sturdy enough for the deep digs I had to pull against the current.
Cathie Richardson
Folds up quickly and easily for storage, so it takes up little room.

I'm not sure if I rec'd a defective one, but on my second outing the paddle snapped in half. When fully extended, there appeared to be no overlap in the aluminum tubes, making it a very weak spot (which I only discovered after seeing it in 2 pieces). If you only paddle with it you may be fine. If you want to do something super reckless and aggressive like fend off from a dock or push off on a sandy beach to help launch your canoe I'd go for something stronger.

I have more than 1 set of these to go with some inflatable rafts and like the fact that they can go small for storage, but don't need unscrewing or have little parts to lose etc. To extend it, you just twist the end handle and mid section ~90 degrees each (the same way as loosening bolts), pull it out however far you want, and twist them back to lock them in place (taking all of 5 seconds). You can keep twisting it all day in the direction for loosening, so the top handle piece can end up in any position you like (you just have to start tightening it with it ~90 degrees away from where you want it to end up). The blade is totally flat with no curve or bumps(except for the center area where the rods go inside), so if you are concerned with how it "grips the water" or such it may not be the greatest. Once done using them, I did notice some water got inside them which I couldn't get out except by extending & retracting them to try and "Pump" it out along the rods where they slide. Otherwise nothing unexpected.

I was given this paddle as a gift so I could go out with my preschool son. The adjustable shaft allows you to make it just the right length for a child. It is solid, good quality plastic and aluminum. Good value.

I purchased 4 of these paddles for a canoe trip down the Colorado River. The lower Colorado is flat, no rapids, about like a flat lake with a 3-4mph current. Two of the paddles broke, and were carried downstream. No rocks, no brush, just flat water with normal use. The paddles are flat, and would not grip the water, could no propel the canoes with any efficiency. A slightly curved paddle is much better to grip the water.

These are OK for what they are: Lightweight, collapsible, transportable, easy to use, etc.

Like others have mentioned, do not extend fully at the middle point: Leave an overlap with the aluminum tubes, or else you will break these in half. I noticed mine cracking when I was using hard strokes, and I simply adjusted it so there was a couple-inch overlap, and there have been no issues since!

See my pictures of the Sevylor Tahiti Fishing/Hunting Inflatable Kayak to see how nicely these paddle pack up with the rest of the kit!

4 stars because they are good for the price, but could use improvement.

If you are buying these for an inflatable kayak, I would strongly recommend you stick with a double ended kayak paddle.

These were very handy for tube floating that we dd this summer. They are compact enough for use on a single-person raft. This would be 5 star but one of the paddles was not able to close after a couple of uses.

We got one of these to help steer our inner tubes down the river. It was perfect. Very Very sturdy and well made. Floats just fine if you drop it (which we did) Can't say anything bad about it. Would definitely purchase again.
