5.0 out of 5 stars Good for kids
I was given this paddle as a gift so I could go out with my preschool son. The adjustable shaft allows you to make it just the right length for a child. It is solid, good quality plastic and aluminum. Good value.

1.0 out of 5 stars worthless paddle
I purchased 4 of these paddles for a canoe trip down the Colorado River. The lower Colorado is flat, no rapids, about like a flat lake with a 3-4mph current. Two of the paddles broke, and were carried downstream. No rocks, no brush, just flat water with normal use. The paddles are flat, and would not grip the water, could no propel the canoes with any efficiency. A...

4.0 out of 5 stars handy and compact, January 13, 2011

These were very handy for tube floating that we dd this summer. They are compact enough for use on a single-person raft. This would be 5 star but one of the paddles was not able to close after a couple of uses.

We got one of these to help steer our inner tubes down the river. It was perfect. Very Very sturdy and well made. Floats just fine if you drop it (which we did) Can't say anything bad about it. Would definitely purchase again.

I have used this a couple of times and it is great to have. It is very small and light so it is a perfect backup to a motor.

I'm not sure if I rec'd a defective one, but on my second outing the paddle snapped in half. When fully extended, there appeared to be no overlap in the aluminum tubes, making it a very weak spot (which I only discovered after seeing it in 2 pieces). If you only paddle with it you may be fine. If you want to do something super reckless and aggressive like fend off from a dock or push off on a sandy beach to help launch your canoe I'd go for something stronger.

We love these paddles compared to the ones we've had in the past that came with our rubber rafts. The paddles are very strong and sturdy! They also are telescoping so they shrink down for storage and are adjustable during use.

I really like this paddle. It is small enough when at its shortest length to stow away. It is long enough to paddle down rivers on a raft when it is fully extended. The locking mechanism works very well and keeps it from moving up and down. The rivers I float are calmer rivers and do not have rapids, some few small raids but nothing too big so i do not know how this would work if the river was an intense one. Great Product.

5.0 out of 5 stars No assembly required!, August 17, 2011
This review is from: Kwik Tek P-1 Telescoping Paddle (20-Inches - 45-Inches) (Sports)
I have more than 1 set of these to go with some inflatable rafts and like the fact that they can go small for storage, but don't need unscrewing, have little parts to lose, etc. To extend it, you just twist the end handle and mid section ~90 degrees each (the same way as loosening bolts), pull it out however far you want, and twist them back to lock them in place. You can keep twisting it all day in the direction for loosening, so the top handle piece can end up in any position you like (you just have to start tightening it with it ~90 degrees away from where you want it to end up). Once done using them, I did notice some water got inside them which I couldn't get out except by extending & retracting them to try and "Pump" it out along the rods where they slide. Otherwise nothing unexpected.
