Kwikset's SmartKey reset cradle is a useful tool to quickly repair a SmartKey cylinder when it has been improperly keyed or if the SmartKey learning tool has been misplaced. The reset cradle is simple and easy to use. Simply remove the lock from the door, remove the SmartKey cylinder plug, insert it into the reset cradle and the cradle will reset the cylinder to learn a new key. The SmartKey reset cradle is a must have for property managers of rental properties, vacation rentals, or places where there is a high possibility of lost or misplaced keys.

SmartKey locks provide you the flexibility to re-key your locks quickly and easily without removing them from your door. And you can re-key a SmartKey lock as frequently as you wish while maintaining the highest level of security. Featuring a patented side-locking bar technology, the SmartKey lock can be rapidly re-keyed in the event a key is lost or stolen or if you've recently moved. Re-keying also allows homeowners the flexibility to match all Kwikset keyed entries to one key for added convenience and security.

This stainless steel side-locking bar also replaces the traditional pin and tumbler design that is particularly vulnerable to lock bumping attacks. The cylinder uses two steel balls inserted into the front of the key face to provide improved drill resistance.

Warranty

This product comes with a lifetime mechanical and finish warranty to the original residential user of Kwikset against defects in material and workmanship as long as the original user occupies the residential premises upon which the product was originally installed. This warranty does not cover scratches; abrasions; deterioration due to the use of paints, solvents or other chemicals; abuse; misuse; or product(s) used in commercial applications.

This is the best little item. mUst have for the home owner of Kwikset locks!!! It saves time when you want to rekey your Kwikset locks b/c you don't have to worry about buying keyed alike locksets. You also don't have to worry about screwing up rekeying by pulling out the little tool when you are not suppose to and then none of yoour keys work!!! All you do is use the tool to reset the tumbler and key to what key you want to. Great time saver.

Kwikset's SmartKey system is perfect for rental properties and vacation homes, where frequent lock changes can be a hassle, not to mention costly. Rekeying a lock is a snap, as long, as you have the original key. If not, the SmartKey reset cradle will help out in these situations since it will allow you to rekey a SmartKey lock without access to the original key. The only caveat is that you must have access to the tumbler, which means the interior side of the lock must be accessible. As long as you haven't been locked out, all you need to do is unscrew the lock assembly remove the tumbler and insert in the reset cradle. A quick twist and you are ready to train the lock with a new key; no messing with springs and pins.

I found the cradle and instructions to be very good. Only problem was that they start at the point where you already have the cylinder out of the lock. If you don't know how to get it out click on this link or copy and paste it in your browser for very good instructions on how to get it out. [...]
