A google search will talk about this product's reported ability to prevent lock-bumping along with lots of amateur and semi-pro locksmith sites that will basically show you that any lock can be defeated by someone with enough time, energy, and knowhow. That said, you need locks and you need good locks. These have been very good locks for us after 18 months of use.

In that time, our babysitter has lost her set of keys to our house twice. We have 10 locks in the house. To have a locksmith come out to rekey them all would be really costly and time consuming. In reality, I just would have taken the chance that she didn't drop them in front of the house and that no one would find them / use them if I didn't have these great locks. Instead, I stopped by a hardware store and had new keys made for everyone for less than ten bucks, then I rekeyed each lock in our house in less than 1 minute per lock.

When we were gone and had to give a tradesman access to the house in our absence, I just rekeyed the back door to a temporary key, gave him a copy and kept a copy for myself. He entered and exited as necessary while we were gone, then I rekeyed it to our original keyset when we returned.

It's very easy and inexpensive to give yourself peace of mind with these keys.

The lock is solid and well-built. It wasn't hard to install and the SmartKey feature is very nice. It took me just a few seconds to rekey the lock to match my other door locks. The product is a bit more than other locks but, to me, the additional features are worth the difference.

We already have these locks installed in our house by our builder and I needed another for an outdoor shed door that I built myself. This is a very well-built lock set. My door was prehung with lock holes already drilled with the excetption of the door jam hole needing to be deeper and cleaned out for the reinforcing piece. It took maybe 15 minutes to clean that out and the lock works great. You do need a good drill and new sharp bit that can drive the long screws into the door jam and stud in the wall. Another nifty feature is that this is a rekeyable lock and in a minute I can make it work with the key for our house. But for now, we leave it keyed differently because we have a gardener who needs to be in the shed and I don't want them having the key to the whole house.

I was replacing a lock on my back door and chose this after reading other reviews and experience with this brand. I'm pretty handy with tools, so filter the fact that it was easy for me to install through that fact. But, I think it would be easy for anyone and requires almost zero tools other than a screwdriver if you are replacing an existing lockset. The mechanism works great and is very sturdy in its feel. I'd recommend this to others looking for locksets.

I have just installed this new lock with smart key. Then, after I tried the second time to use the new key while I was standing indoors, the original key does not work any longer. After that I kept trying and nothing worked.

I checked the review from other people on line to see if they have the same problem and found the same problem that the house owners were locked out.

I am very scared at this point. I cannot find any quality product to protect myself.

The flexibility of Kwikset is unequaled. It is great to be able to temporarily change to an alternate key and then change back to the key on your key chain.

So far this lock has been great. Great price, easy to install since I already had a Kwikset deadbolt installed previously. Looks extremely nice on my door and the safety features are all commercial grade. One thing before buying this is don't install on a door with glass pane windows. Inside part is a latch that turns to lock instead of keyed. That way burgler could break glass, turn latch and walk right in. Also highly recommend a steel reinforced door jam in case of door kick-in. A good door lock won't do a bit of good if the wooden door frame is not reinforced with steel.

I needed to change my locks. I got them all changed but the deadbolt on my security door. I did not want to uses two keys to get into my home. So, I got the SmartKey Deadbolt. I installed it in a few minutes and 30 seconds later I had it re-keyed to the key I was using on the main house door. The is a project that can be done by almost anyone and you can re-key your lock for less than it costs to have a locksmith show up at your door.

Worth the money.

ordered two sets and installed them into were older kwikset dead bolts were removed, at a quick glance they looked the same but when I stated to install them there was more difference than what meets the eye. took twice as lang to install the first one than had expected, the second one went a little faster about an hour. but for a newer model of same manufacturer I thought it should have gone a bit easier.

I liked the deadbolt slightly less than the keyset, but that is probably due to the fact that the keyset just popped right in, while I had to drill out the hole in the door, since the original lock was smaller.

Like the handset, the rekey is wonderful. Allowed me to have a matching deadbolt and keyset without going to the locksmith.

Install instructions quite good. All the parts you might need--which is a welcome difference from other products I've purchased for home repair in the past!
