    Is Kevo compatible with my SmartPhone? Kevo is only compatible with SmartPhones that support Bluetooth Smart Ready/Bluetooth 4.0 hardware AND have an available Kevo app. The app is currently only available for iPhone 4S, 5, 5C, 5S, 6 and 6 Plus, 3rd generation or higher iPad/iPad mini and 5th generation iPod touch. Also available on select Android 5.0, Lollipop devices. Kevo apps available on both the Apple App Store & Google Play

    Can someone hack into my Kevo lock? The Kevo lock does not only rely on the built-in encryption available in Bluetooth. Kevo also provides multiple levels of military grade PKI encryption.

    What is the battery life? The Kevo lock operates on 4 AA batteries and with normal use, the batteries should last for a year before needing replacing. The lock provides multiple low battery indicators and provides plenty of warning to change batteries. In the event that the batteries are not replaced in time, you will need to use the standard key to unlock the door.

    When I’m inside the house, can someone touch the Kevo lock to unlock it from the outside? No, the Kevo lock has a unique and patent pending feature to detect if the authorized user is inside or outside of the house, so there will be no accidental unlocking from an unauthorized user outside.

    How will the Kevo App affect my SmartPhone battery life? The Kevo App needs Location Services and Bluetooth to be on, which do use some battery power (you would already be using this if you use other mapping apps or Bluetooth devices). The Kevo App is designed to take advantage of the new ultra-power-efficient Bluetooth Smart Ready Technology, so you shouldn’t notice a decrease in your phone’s battery life.

    What happens if I lose my phone? Simply log into the Kevo app on another SmartPhone or into the Kevo web portal and disable or delete any eKeys associated with the lock. You will need to use your Kevo Fob or the standard key to unlock the lock until you retrieve or replace your phone.

    Kevo Compatibility The Kevo app is currently available for iPhone 4s, 5, 5C, 5S, 6 and 6 Plus, 3rd generation or higher iPad/iPad mini and 5th generation iPod touch along with select Android 5.0 devices Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Samsung Galaxy S5.     Unrelated to Kevo, I did a complete system refresh on my iPhone 5 at the start of the year. In so doing, my Kevo response time returned to what were acceptable levels prior to my 12/9 update below. Don't know what was goofy about my phone in relation to Kevo, but the reset solved the problem. Would appear the phone was the culprit and not the lock. Back to being happy with Kevo performance, and feeling dumb for not troubleshooting my phone earlier and putting the blame solely on the lock.

    Still waiting for remote locking capabilities. And would still love to see an update wherein the lock does not activate until the door sits squarely in the door jamb, or perhaps the sensitivity of the lock is reduced. Can't tell you how many times I've slammed the deadbolt into the jamb because I brushed against the lock while shutting the door.

    12/9/2014:
    Since updating to IOS 8, and also updating the Kevo firmware, communication between my iPhone 5 and the Kevo has been very slow at best, and unresponsive at worst. I'd say 7 out of 10 taps on the lock since updating roughly 2 months ago take at least 5 seconds for the Kevo to respond; 2 of 10 taps are completely unresponsive; with the final 10% of attempts responding in between 2 to 5 seconds. I'm a patient man, but I've been frustrated by the lack of responsiveness since the upgrade--so much so that I've actually resorted to pulling out my keys to open the door on more than one occasion.

    7/7/2014:
    I took an IOS update yesterday (now on V7.1.2) and shortly afterwards left the house. I was shocked to find the Kevo respond immediately upon being touched. And I mean immediately. Kwikset promised a faster response time with their March/April firmware update, but I never saw it until yesterday.

    Thank you for your feedback regarding the additional charge for eKeys beyond the 2 eKeys that come included with the Kevo unit. We have sent and will continue to send an additional 5 eKeys to all of those who have or will purchase a Kevo unit before 12/1/13. These additional 5 eKeys will be automatically credited to the Owner account who initially set up the Kevo unit to their Smart device.

    Also - if you remove Kevo's interior cover you will notice 4 small switches in the bottom right hand corner. Switch 1 controls the status LED. This flashing light communicates whether the door is locked or unlocked and flashes red for a low battery alert. This function can be turned on and off by the position of Switch 1.

    I had high hopes when first pre-ordering this product. It seemed to be what I was looking for, remote access that I can grant and take away with ease, no more key in my pocket, manage online and ensure security of my door. I even went to the product website to read up and understand more about the product. I thought I knew what I was getting into. Turns out they left a few things out. First, is how fussy the lock is with the location of your phone. If you stand a reasonable distance from the door, you can expect it to work occasionally. Even after multiple calibrations I can't stand more than 6-12 inches from the door to open it, even then it is not 100%. I have a brand new iPhone so it is not due to lack of latest technology. The fob that comes with it works fine from a normal standing distance. The second "gottcha" is that now additional e-keys "Past the free one" are $1.99 through an in-app purchase. Excuse me, I just spend over $200 on a lock, the least you can do is give me a reasonable amount of e-keys. I had hoped for a Nest like experience but what I ended up with was something that should have had more work and testing behind it. Not ready for prime time yet. It is a neat idea, just poorly excecuted.

    So I have been following this product for a couple months on Amazon after I saw an early ad for it. I was very excited and pre-ordered a set of two, one for my house and the other for my parents. I am in my mid 20's and the "Tech Guy" for my family for a little background. Much of the review is focused about the Support and Launch of the Kwikset Kevo, and I will include a "TLDR" PROs and CONs list at the end.

    Once I got the first unit in my house I opened it and it looked pretty solid from the outside. So I took my time installing it and following the instructions, and for the life of me could not get the touch feature to function when put together. The strange thing was though, when the unit was assembled without a door, it worked perfectly. So I tried the troubleshooting PDF guide and spend about 2-3 days on it a couple of hours a night trying to figure it out myself. Finally at a lost I decided to contact Kwikset Customer Support.

    The first person I spoke to was Jose, and he was very helpful. He gave me some tips on troubleshooting it a little further, because I knew the unit worked I just figured I was failing somewhere on the installation. Afterwards we realized the unit itself was defective as other reviewers are mentioning with similar issues as mine, and they promptly Next Day Air Shipped a new unit out to my house. They also emailed me a label to ship my defective unit back to them. But before I got the new unit I tried to install the other one I had purchased for my parents house. After having taken mine apart and reinstalled it around 7-8 times I had gotten pretty familiar with how it was put together. I installed the 2nd one within 18 minutes and it functioned perfectly and well within my expectations of this product.

    [Update after 2 months of use] Would not recommend this product. 1. Lock function even more spotty than original review. 2. Lock goes into blue "scanning" mode by itself without anyone/thing touching it. It has managed to unlock itself while I was inside the house (even with proper calibration). It has also deployed the deadbolt on its own with the door open or closing, which has caused damage the trim around the inside of the door (due to door closing with deadbolt deployed). 3. The app crashes for no apparent reason causing the lock to not operate. 4. The app signs out of the Kevo account for no apparent reason and you are given no notice until the lock is inoperable. 5. There have been times when the Kevo scans the phone, the phone acknowledges scan (vibrate and/or sound), then the deadbolt does nothing. This device needs some major overhauling.

    I had higher expectations for this item. The unit looks great and is understated (a good thing). Installation is very simple and straightforward. Initial account setup is simple as well. The colored LEDs on the deadbolt are simple and informative.

    The major flaw is the unit's ability to read your phone and operate the lock. Initially, I skipped the calibration and the lock worked 9/10 times to lock or unlock the door. In order to have the lock properly identify whether the phone was inside or outside the home, I decided to calibrate the receiver. It took at least 10 tries to get a "successful" calibration yet the lock works intermittently at best now. It does not inspire the confidence that I can leave the house without a real key (go for a run, for example).
