5.0 out of 5 stars I made this DVD
Hi my names Todd and I made the KWOON DVD (so I had to give it 5 Stars) I wanted to try and convince you to buy this by making you a promise: It will not be the worst DVD you own. It may not be the best...but I can promise it won't be the worst. Consider that when you watch KWOON, you we see us fight the Grim Reaper, a Mummy and even the Mob. "My Gosh...in one...

2.0 out of 5 stars Sorry Guys... Film School Needed
I understand you all are struggling filmmakers. I am in that category myself. Yet, please understand that it is bad etiquette to review yourself or even to get your mother to.
How do these reviews help you as filmmakers when they give you five stars and say they loved it??? Well, that ends with me. Here is some constructed criticism to burst your neurotic bubble...

"My Gosh...in one DVD?" you ask. YES!!! And a lot more! Now I know most of you have never heard of us and you may just want to go buy Pirates of the Caribbean and thats cool, but I don't see Johnny Depp here talking to you...do you know why? He does not like you. We at KWOON on the other hand love and cherish you, hoping you'll give our show a chance. Well, thanks for your time and now I must head back to work mowing lawns.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Fun, March 7, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kwoon (DVD)
"Direct to Video" is a term that still has a stigma associated with it. Usually it means bad movies.

The same can't be said for KWOON however. This direct to DVD series of shorts are a surprisingly funny, taught and, yes, sometimes well acted series. KWOON also excels in its production design and cinematography. This isn't a college thesis project; instead it's an honest to goodness attempt at making a story worth watching. And they succeed.

The DVD features several "extras" including writer/producer/actor/director Todd Roy visiting a Kung Fu tournament in China. His off the wall humor is quick and merciless, but never at anyone's expense but himself.

The KWOON DVD is something to watch....Todd Roy is someone to watch for.

5.0 out of 5 stars I had doubts, but they are now gone, April 15, 2004

I will say this, I laughed out loud many times. I'm not part of the KWOON folks, but caught a review of the DVD on Cinescape and figured I would give it a shot. Normally I don't go for indie films, but you guys changed my mind. For those of you reading this, take it from me and give the DVD a shot. Its packed with great bonus materials too that are fricken funny. That dude Todd is a crack up and I got a kick out of how much effort all of you put into making your movies. THis is something I wish I could have done. Great DVD Great Show. It now sits on the top of my DVD shelf. Kudos to all of you.

It's been a while since I watched something so funny but at the same makes you want to jump into the TV screen to help them out. The characters try so hard, but there's just so much going on against them. This dvd is truly refreshing--a guaranteed good laugh... just wish there was more of this show out there.

I remember watch Kwoon, a long time ago, and I must say this is some of the best comedy I have seen. The Martial arts is great and the actors make you want to keep watching. They are all funny and I hope to see many more Kwoon DVD's; with a lot more episodes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kwoontastic, February 15, 2004

This review is from: Kwoon (DVD)
KWOON is a funny series about Kung Fu students, what more could you ask?! While definitely cheesy, it fully embraces that aspect even donning the slogan "Bad Acting, Good Kung Fu". That is not to say the acting sucks, but it isn't the main focus. The action is where its at! Also, the quality of the episodes is not at all amatueristic. Lost of time and money were obviously put into the series to make it the best it could possibly be.
Ultimately, If you love cheesiness, good jokes, and action you should love this. It is great to see that this series found its way from the internet to store shelves around the country, it deserves some attention. Way to go guys!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kwoon - Kung fu, bad acting, and comedy at its near best!, February 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kwoon (DVD)
Over the past few years, KWOON has been attracting a steadily growing fanbase all over the world. If you're new to KWOON, but are a kungfu fan, or if you like really bad acting and great comedy, you can't go wrong with this DVD.

KWOON is about the misadventures of a group of kungfu students trying to scrape a living off of the dusty floor of the Silicon Valley in CA. There are 3 episodes on the DVD (they were filmed in reverse order.. on purpose, but we haven't figured that part out yet). In episode 4, the KWOON guys encounter an ancient mummy while researching Egypt at the local museum. Unfortunately, they find that the curse of King Yummy is all too real. Oh, and there are some cute girls running around too.

In episode 3, the guys have a run-in with the local mob... and ninjas. Lots of ninjas. At a waterpark. With lots of beautiful women.

In episode 2, they have to battle off the Grim Reaper himself!Well, one of them, at any rate. This episode also includes the now famous "Group Fight." There's also a scene with... you guessed it.. a lot of beautiful women.

The kung fu in KWOON is superbly choreographed and really gives the viewer the old Shaw Bros feel. Also, guest martial artists including Hung Gar Sifu Donald Hamby and K-1 Champion Cung Le make an appearance! And the comedy is truly first rate. And even if the comedy wasn't there, the acting is so bad it's funny!

Each episode is digitally remastered and KHX certified. The DVD is loaded with extras too, including behind the scenes takes and film shorts. (And there are hot chicks in every episode!)

So, grab the CD, join the other 5 fans, and help Todd make his rent payment.

This is the greatest! Kwoon is filled with the creativity, talent, skill, knowledge and fun that only a true movie buff could have. The acting is great and the Kung Fu is even better. It's an excellent series and shows tremendous promise for a long and exciting career in the movie industry. I have recommended Kwoon to all my friends and neighbors. Besides, he's my son. How could he be any thing but the greatest?

5.0 out of 5 stars It was as much fun to shoot as it is to watch!, February 18, 2004
This review is from: Kwoon (DVD)
Hello all. My name is Tara an I was the camera operator on this. I'm so proud of Todd and everyone that really worked hard on this. It's truley hilarious and one your kids will love too! My 8 year old son always wants to see this now. And he thinks I'm super cool for working on it too. *grin*
Todd is a really awesome guy and he is that funny in real life too. He is just non-stop and he lends that energy to these fliks. It's really a fun show to watch! Way to go! Go out and get this and show all your friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars I know these freaks!, February 15, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Kwoon (DVD)
Hehe, I'm Chet Braun and the KWOON crowd are my kungfu brothers (fellow students and instructors).

I suppose I could have twisted an arm or two and got this dvd free but I hate to see Todd pushing a mower across someone's grass for minimum wage. So, I bought one. And my wife bought a second so we'd get free shipping (a highly recommended practice).

Seriously, this crew put their hearts into this project and even a bit of their blood. The kung fu is genuine and Onasis' choreography rocks. The acting? Well...it brought me to tears and I hope as it improves it's still as hilarious.

The cinematography is quite good for a group that started from scratch and learned on the job. A big thumbs up and definitely 5 stars from me!

Well done KWOON!
