Customer Reviews

It is very slow to display the picture when changing channels.
I cannot figure out how to contact customer service so I guess I'll try to find another product like this one.

I returned the unit and have not replaced it yet (I wasnt given the option to exchange the unit).

First off, I'd like to say that I finally decided to get rid of my cable TV subscription after all these years. Paying more than $1000 a year for cable just doesn't justify getting 500 channels (for a TV that costs $500!), which I hardly watch anyway! Comcast is the only cable company in my area so I'm stuck with a $100 a month subscription. That said, this tuner is worth more than the $100 I paid for. Also, with a better antenna (for about $50), you can get even more channels than you need. I was able to scan 25 channels and I live on the first floor in a busy, apartment complex in Northern VA!

I've been using this tuner for 2 days now and it's working almost flawlessly (very few dropouts through DVI-D to HDMI connection) so I'm very, very happy with its performance. I will, however, say that the sound through HDMI has all sorts of dropouts (I suspect that it's the HDMI cable that is causing this problem, so I probably will buy a new and better cable later to try this out). I connected an external speaker through the analog audio out instead and I'm not getting ANY sound dropout at all, so I'm sure it's not the RECEPTION. Video is almost flawless!

Just being able to watch NBC, FOX, WETA, and WDCA in HD more than justifies the cost of this tuner! I highly recommend it.

UPDATE (JUNE 12, 2010) - This tuner is still working fine after 3 months ($300 saved without cable subscription!) so it has paid for itself already. As for how reliable this tuner is, I remember having to unplug it about 3 times in the past 3 months because it just stopped working alltogether. It's a normal "reboot" so I'd say that's not so bad. I currently have this tuner connected to an Epson EX51 projector (awesome to see HD broadcasts at 80 INCHES!!!

I purchased the Kworld HDMI edition HD TV Tuner in order to get all of my local channels in 720p and 1080i. My LCD only had one cable/antenna input with a tuner but both extra HDMI and component inputs. My cable service only provides about half of the local stations available. The tuner is up and running now and providing excellent reception and HD pictures.

I initially had trouble in that the tuner would freeze on a weak station and I would then have to reboot the tuner. A call to Kworld's US based tech support (949-450-0052) identified new firmware which they sent me via email as an attachment. It installed easily after I discovered the flash drive I was using was partitioned into 2 drives. Kworld requires that the firmware be downloaded on a clean flash drive in order to transfer the upgrade to the tuner in the configuration I was using (other options available depending on the equipment you are using). A clean flash drive without partitions solved that problem.

The manual and instructions accompanying the product need to be improved and simplified as many have noted but the controls on the remote and the tuner box are easily mastered. The online menus for setup and selecting viewing options are easily understood. I have owned and used the tuner for only a couple days but so far I am pleased with the product and customer service. The only issue remaining is reliability and the product's life span. My fingers are crossed! There are not many stand alone TV tuners in the market place right now. This one is reasonably priced and now available.

Kworld seems to have cut some design corners with their design. Plus they have some serious quality issues too. Buyers of their products should be very cautious when they buy.

I ocassionally like to watch TV in my home theater. So, I went looking for an HDTV terrestrial reciever with HDMI output that had good reviews. I wanted a unit to hook up to my Denon home theater processor via an HDMI cable connection. I have a Blu-ray and Xbox unit also connected to my Denon using HDMI. They all work great together. I use a high end JVC projector which handles the projection to a 120" screen. It's a beautiful setup. So...wanting to add HDTV to my setup I bought this unit.

Upon receipt of the Kworld I did an initial installation. I used the DVI to HDMI converter that came with the unit and connected it up to my Denon using a standard HDMI cable. Selected the input on the Denon and everything should work, right...wrong! I got no sound or video out of the Kworld. I had to do a bunch of trouble shooting to find out why. I've noticed that many reviewers have complained of recieveing DOA units, but I bet it is because the didn't realize that the factory default setting is not the DVI/HDMI out. Rather, they made the default output the analog audio/video outputs. Grrr.

Ok, after making some setting adjustments, which required a lot of head scratching, I got the video out of the dang DVI/HDMI interface. Audio doesn't get encoded into the DVI/HDMI data stream, so I had to connect up the analog audio up to the Denon too. Grr. Only stereo, and no 5.1 available on this unit. More disappointment. The good news, was that the video looked great after I set the unit to output 1080i. Which was fairly easy to do from the remote.
