Product Description

The Slo-Bowl is a natural, healthy and playful solution for dogs that gobble their kibble too quickly. Our nature-inspired designs promote natural eating habits by requiring dogs to forage for their feasts. Moreover, by prolonging feeding times, Slo-Bowls reduce the risks for bloat, regurgitation and canine obesity. Dogs quickly learn to "chase" their food through the maze of ridges and valleys, making dinnertime feel more like a hunt. And, because the Slo-Bowl "rewards" their play with bits of food, furry friends become more and more engaged as the meal goes on. Veterinarians agree that slower feeding is safer feeding. When it's time to dine, feed your dog with peace of mind.

The Natural Way For A Dog To Eat

Dog Games Slo-Bowl Slow Feeders

The Natural Way Feeding furry friends natural food doesn't guarantee that they're eating naturally. It was only recently that our canine companions started receiving their daily ration all at once. Modern dogs descend from wolves that foraged for their food, eating only small amounts at a time. For centuries, this was the natural way for a dog to eat. Because their wolf ancestors were accustomed to food scarcity, dogs today woof down their dinner in a matter of moments. This has caused a number of health and digestive issues. By requiring them to scavenge for their feast, Slo-Bowls force dogs to eat their food the way nature intended.

The Healthy Way Our dogs' modern, unnatural eating habits are responsible for some pretty serious health issues. Bloat, which kills around 20,000 dogs every year, is typically attributed to rapid eating. Dogs that eat too fast also tend to overeat, which has led to increases in canine obesity. Being overweight, in turn, increases a dog's risk for cardiac disease, heat stroke, and respiratory conditions. Veterinarians across the country agree that slower feeding is safer feeding. By prolonging feeding times, the Slo-Bowl allows dogs to eat the healthy way while reducing the risk for bloat, regurgitation, and canine obesity. When it's time to dine, feed your dog with peace of mind.

The Playful Way Our feeders are designed to put the brakes on overeager eaters. But, unlike bowls that simply hinder a dog's ability to eat, this dish actually makes a game out of gorging. Dogs learn to "chase" their food through a maze of ridges and valleys, which makes dinnertime feel more like a hunt. And, because the Slo-Bowl "rewards" their play with bits of food, dogs become more and more engaged as the meal goes on. Foraging for every bite, furry friends eat a healthier, more balanced meal. Plus, a non-slip rubber base holds the bowl in place during dining, preventing pups from sending their food flying. Give your dog the bowl that adds a bit of fun to every bite.

Why I Eat With A Slo-Bowl

I live my life pretty fast - playing fetch, chasing squirrels, chewing up shoes - you get the gist. But, sometimes it's good for me to slow down a little. That's why I eat my food out of a Slo-Bowl. With a regular dog dish, I can consume all my kibble in a matter of moments. But, with a Slo-Bowl, I'm forced to eat at a slower, healthier pace. My vet says it also helps prevent bloat, canine obesity, and regurgitation. I've still got a lot of tennis balls to chase, but chowtime shouldn't be a race. I live fast, but I eat slow.

Customer Reviews

Now it takes over 5 minutes for her to eat the meal.

Once my dog eats down the mound of food, he has to really work at getting the rest of his kibble - his eating has slowed considerably!
Carrie
These bowls really work on slowing down dogs who eat too fast.

My dog Bruno was able to figure out the loophole in this design on the very same day we received this dog food bowl. See the video for details.

I bought this for an obese Corgi who is the greediest dog alive. He's always on a diet, and right now only gets 3/4 of a cup of diet kibble twice a day. He usually finishes it up in forty-five seconds. I timed him the first time I fed him in this dish, and it took him more than five minutes! Plus, he got up and moved around as he ate, instead of laying there like a lump with the dish between his paws. I've tried other slow-feed bowls, and they only work for a few days -- until he learns to tip them over. I don't think he'll be able to master that skill with this design. If he does, I'll revise my review accordingly.

My spoiled-rotten rat terrier, who must be coaxed and/or bribed to eat his kibble, showed so much interest in this bowl that tonight after the Corgi had finished up and waddled off for a nap, I scattered the rattie's uneaten dinner in it. He's always up for a game, and he had a great time chasing and capturing his food. I just ordered a second one in a different pattern for him.

My dog used to have awful, terrible, no good, very smelly gas. This item helped slow down his eating pattern meaning he inhaled less air and therefore no more gas. I asked the dog to write some review. He barked and then walked across the keyboard. 2 dogs tested it, the faster eater took about 5 times longer to eat from this bowl than an unobstructed bowl (i.e. 54 seconds vs about 4 minutes and 40+ seconds).

"Hills" vs "Flower"
Same dog (faster eater) eating the same food amount took over 6 minutes with the "flower" bowl. (i.e. 54 seconds vs about 6 minutes and 10+ seconds)
The slower eater of the 2 dogs eating from the "Hills" bowl matched the faster dogs eating time in the "flower" bowl, but when the slower dog ate from the "Flower" bowl the eating time was much longer (i.e. 3 or 4 minutes) than the faster eater eating from the "Hills" bowl.

Not sure how to slow down the eating more than this without manually giving each kibble.

Totally worth it, but knowing now, I would have gotten 2 "flower" bowls.

I have two Miniature Schnauzers that literally inhale their food. They do NOT chew it at all. I give them dry kibble and canned green beans for bulk. They are 6 and 4 years old and, so far, have suffered no ill effects from their speedy eating. However, I felt it had to be better if they slowed down and actually chewed their food. They have long skinny tongues so they can reach in the passages but a dog with a ladle shaped tongue might not be very successful. I bought two of these, the circular spiral and the flower. The spiral has much deeper grooves and is harder for both of them to use. I would not get it again for them. The flower seems just difficult enough. I alternate with feedings.

I'm happy because it slows them down and gives them a challenge and all the dog owners in our family think that it is a great idea. My wife thinks that I'm a Sadist and am torturing them.

But not anymore! This really helped my dog not eat herself to death! Plus, it's fun to watch her give me dirty looks while she's eating.

I bought this bowl for my 40lb 1 year old Pit/Cockapoo mix. He is full of energy and swallows his food in about 45seconds when served in a regular bowl. I had looked at many other bowls that incorporated games but after a local dog store allowed him to try some I knew they wouldn't last. He is too smart for the ones where the food was hidden and they have to move things around, and they were no challenge to get to the food once the puzzle was solved. There is another one that looks like it has spikes, and he is so excited to get at the food that I was afraid he would poke an eye out (and after reading a review I found out that was possible). After scouring reviews I decided on this one. It is bigger and deeper than I expected, but exactly what he needs. It now takes him around 20min to finish 1 1/2 cups of food. The only thing I have found is that when it gets to the last few pieces they are so slobbery that they stick to the bowl and he gets frustrated and he will then pick it up using the middle section. I fixed this by just helping get those last pieces to the end so he can eat them and he doesn't try to pick it up. He can't fit his paw in it, and his snout is too big for some sections, but he seems to thoroughly enjoy it and wants to play with it even without food in it. Hope this helps.

I purchased all the different styles of Kyjen bowls for my dogs; a Pomeranian, a Chihuahua, a Poodle, a Golden Retriever, and a Pitbull… because they used to eat their kibble so fast, usually in less than a minute when they had their regular bowls, and a few minutes after eating, some of them would vomit.
Eating out of this bowls takes them between 6 - 7 minutes , and the vomiting stopped. I highly recommend Kyjen bowls!
