5.0 out of 5 stars Great product!!!
I didn't buy this vest, from Amazon.com :-( because my dog is an odd size and I had a gift certificate for a local store. This vest fits him very good. We even tried it out and he acted as if he wasn't wearing it. We went to the beach and he is was the talk of the group. 3.0 out of 5 stars More sizes would be appreciated
I have a 20 lb dachshund/schnauzer mix. I bought the medium, feeling fairly sure that the small would be too small based on the reviews. The PFD seemed like it was a perfect length for her body, but I couldn't cinch down the straps around the body or neck to make it fit snug. When we tried it out, her paws kept getting caught in the neck hole, hindering her swimming...

We even tried it out and he acted as if he wasn't wearing it. We went to the beach and he is was the talk of the group. A Pug wearing a lifevest while running in and out of the water with the big boys. I would highly recommend this for a small dog, any dog. It has clips so he could easily be picked up without it unhooking. Like someone said "like picking up a six-pack". I like the extra floatation at the front so my Pugs' nose is kept above the water. Now, I have to remember to put it in the car whenever I take him out, just in case we come across some water for him to jump into. Thank you

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Dachshund Puppy PFD, August 2, 2008
I looked at a couple different styles of PFD for my mini dachshund and this one provides the most support under her belly and back when I pick her up from the handle. I didn't get the fit right on her once and it rubbed her shoulders raw, so make sure to take the time to get it nice and snug. I only put it on her when we're whitewater rafting, and remove it when we are on shore b/c it doesn't allow her back to bend very much so she can't climb rocks or stairs with it on. I think that's more of a personalized issue for her thought. Otherwise, works great! She is about 9 pounds and wears the extra-small, I think that even the x-small would be too big for a dog any smaller of the 'toy' variety.

The doggie vest was everything advertised and more! Too bad it couldn't make my pup less afraid of the water!! (HA-HA)It kept him afloat and was very easy to put on and make adjustments to. Great item!

4.0 out of 5 stars it keeps the dog afloat, September 21, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I had a difficult time deciding what size to buy for my lhasa ahpso and decided her 15 pounds would be okay in a size small. She hates the water and I thought she might learn to like it a little better if she had help keeping her nose above water. I also liked the idea of me not worrying about her getting tired and going under before I could get to her. The jacket JUST fits. It's a tiny bit big for her but I think the x-small would have been too small. The velcro straps hold securely and you have to struggle to open them when the dog is done swimming. This is a good thing - you know the dog is not going to get out of the jacket. The front wraps around with more velcro and does an excellent job lifting the chest and head out of the water. Finally, the body of the vest is held together with straps to reinforce the velcro. All in all, a very secure vest that will keep your dog afloat, head up, the entire time they're swimming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Jacket!, June 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have a 11.9 lb Jack Russell, who is 12 1/4 inches high at her back. I purchased this so she could come w/ us kyacking. It is a little big but the adjustments make it fit fine. It is probably perfect for a breed who is really wide in the chest, so the chest/front adjustment has alot of extra room, but I did not want to go smaller-I purchased the size small.
The handle is perfect and she finds the jacket comfortable. When she jumped/fell in while kyacking she was able to swim and I was able to scoop her out of the water easily by the handle. I still kept her attached by leash, I did not want her to float away!!

Good jacket , great price....

4.0 out of 5 stars This life jacket for dogs is made for female dogs primarily., June 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Not to be too graphic but, this life jacket for dogs is made for female dogs primarily. The velcro wrap for their undercarriage is great because it keeps your pup securely in the vest. The only problem is that it covers the dog's Entire underside. Thus, it covers some male dog's private parts. Your dog is SAFE but your MALE dog will pee in the vest if he is wrapped in the jacket when he gets off the boat.

I ordered these lifejackets for my dogs to wear on a boating trip.

My "All American Dog" weighs about 30lbs, but is very tall - we ordered him a size medium. My Papillon is only 4.5 lbs and we ordered her an extra-extra small. My third dog is a Scottie/Westie mix and is about 15 lbs - we ordered her the size small jacket. The jackets fit them well and seemed to be comfortable. We put the jackets on the dogs a couple of times before we actually needed to use them and gave the dogs treats while wearing the jackets. They didn't seem to mind wearing the jackets at all.

The jackets have very secure velcro attachments as well as adjustable nylon straps with clips at the neck/chest and around the body. We were able to get a very comfortable and secure fit for all of the dogs.

While we were boating, we let the dogs (except for the Papillon) swim and the jackets kept them afloat. They had never been swimming before, but seemed confident and calm. The handle on the back of the jacket is awesome! You can just grab it and pull the dog into the boat. I also used the handle to hang onto them when in the boat a couple of times when they were looking over the edge. I was beginning to wish the dogs always had a handle on their back... :)

The jackets also have an attachment ring for a leash which I found preferable to keeping the leash attached to the collar.

The jackets worked exactly as I had hoped.
