Hope this video can give you some idea. She's been playing with this one for about a month, but she does not seem to have lost her interest. Recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Destroyed In Less Than 2 Hours By 1 Year Old Lab...
This thing should not be sold as a dog toy - a child's toy maybe. I can't imagine this thing holding up for anything but extremely small dogs (under 10 pounds) or dogs so old, they have zero chewing power. My 1 year old lab had all three squirrels and the tree they come in torn apart in under 2 hours.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy!, February 20, 2006
By
I was nervous when buying this because I wasnt sure if this was the whole set or just replacements- I was pleased when it arrived and was the whole set.
My dog has a great time with this toy. The little squirrels inside the trunk are squeaky toys, which she LOVES. The box came with instructions on how to modivate and teach your pet to use it. We put a small treat in the bottom and she had a great time digging it out. The whole process for removing the squirrels takes her less than a minute now, so if there is not a human near by to restock the trunk, she moves on to something else. This is not something I would leave her with and expect it to keep her occupied for the day.
I would say that if your pet enjoys this general type of play (stuffed things, digging, hide and seek) this is an EXCELLENT toy and alot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars species identification, October 20, 2008
By
A. Fetter (Vermont, United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Our golden retriever loves this and, as others have reported, enjoys carrying the animals around the house after removing them. Fortunately, he doesn't squeak them for more than a couple of minutes at a time, and he hasn't injured any part of it in the three weeks that he's had it (he seems to know the difference between stuffed animals and sticks/bones, fortunately).

I did need to do one intervention, though. The dog's grandparents and his father were encouraging him to "get the squirrels! get the squirrels!" They're definitely chipmunks. I've never seen a striped squirrel. So if you want your dog to learn appropriate species identification (and who doesn't?), you might want to switch to "get the chipmunks!"

A fabulously conceived toy that our mini dachshund loved on first sight. Months later, she will pull the separate pieces out of her toy box and bring them to me to assemble and throw for her. I will say that the squeakers are VERY loud, particularly when stepped on in the middle of the night on the way to get a drink of water in the dark. :)

I've taken to buying this as a gift for dog-owner friends. It's always a huge hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hide a Squirrel is the best!, April 18, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Hide a Squirrel dog toy is the best toy I've ever bought for my 3 westies. All three dogs love it, but Luigi, 2 years old, is nearly obsessed with it. Luigi has destroyed every other squeaky toy in the house, but seems to be satisfied with the "destruction" of removing the squirrels from the tree. He carries the squirrels around everywhere, grooms them, and sleeps with them. Our only "injury" to a squirrel came during an unusually strong tug-of-war (a tail came off). It's great to be able to purchase replacement squirrels. A definite must-have for terriers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, July 9, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this for my Yorkie. He went crazy! He loves his other toys that have things hidden inside so I knew this would be fun for him. I can't help but laugh when he plays with it. I highly recommend this for dogs.

Side note, I didn't really know what to expect size wise. When I read that three squirrels stuffed inside the tree trunk, I thought even the junior size would be big. It is perfect for my Yorkie but if you have bigger dogs, you may want to choose a bigger size.

Overall, no complaints here. I actually am going to order a back-up one should anything happen to the ne I already have.

5.0 out of 5 stars And that's not all, January 22, 2009
This review is from: Kyjen PP01058 Hide-A-Squirrel Pet Toy, Jumbo (Misc.)
My grandpuppy loves this toy and has even discoverd new ways to play with it. Perhaps not what the manufacturer intended, but we have renamed it "Hump-A-Stump".

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent toy for the money, October 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I originally got this toy for one of our dogs who likes to de-stuff squeaky toys. I thought that pulling squirrels out of the tree would be similar enough to de-stuffing without the destruction (and danger of squeaker injestion). He didn't really get it, but our other dog did and she loves it! They do still play with it together, but more in a tug-of-war sort of way.

The dog that likes it is a 40 lb pitbull puppy. She will run around with the tree, pull out squirrels, bat it all around... Just having a good old time. This is the only toy we have that she'll play with on her own. Also, she's currently in training, and our release command for her is "Go play!" Previously, she didn't care to go play with any other toy and would just stare at me, as if to say, "That's all I get for all this work???" Now she's excited for "Go play" because it means she gets the squirrels.

This toy is an excellent price--our local pet supply place had this same toy (same size) for $20.

I do have to watch her when she's playing with it for the following reasons:

- Once she pulls out all three squirrels, (or actually chipmunks as the other reviewer said) she'll occasionally keep trying to pull out more squirrels, pulling at the inside of the tree. Replacing the squirrels obviously takes care of that, but if I left her alone with the toy for long enough, she'd probably rip out some tree fabric (which she'd then probably eat).

- The squeakers in the squirrels are good sized squeakers; they fill up most of the squirrels' bodies. Very easy for the dog to squeak, but again, if I left the dogs with the squirrels for long enough, they'd likely be able to rip the squeakers out.

- To add to the previous statement, the squirrels have tails made of a different fabric than the body. If a tail is sticking out of the tree, our dog will chew on the tail almost like she'd chew on a rawhide. I think the tail is the quickest way to having a destuffed squirrel.

So far, paying attention to our dogs when they play with it, there has been no damage to the toy. I'm probably going to get another one in this series (i.e. hide-a-bee, hide-a-bird, etc).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very fun toy!, February 10, 2007
By
This toy is made in the shape of a tree trunk, with holes for the toy squirrels to "hide" in. The squirrels themselves are small, measuring approximately five inches.
They are fairly easy and very fun for dogs to get out, and can also be placed in the top and the holes in the side if you want to further challenge your dog. Because it is quite soft, extreme chewers will generally tear this to bits in a week to two weeks (or possibly less) so if your dog chews a great deal and you are able to, purchasing two is a good idea. There is cotton stuffing in it but no small pellets that may be swallowed. I recommend this for dogs thirty pounds and up, as it might be somewhat big and frustrating for smaller breeds, and especially toy breeds.
I have seen Shepherds and labs play with this toy and have a great time with both the squirrels and the tree trunk itself, picking both up and carrying them. Played this way, it is like two toys in one. Should you buy this toy for the dog(s) in your life, I am sure you will like watching them play with it and may even be back for another, as I have been. Have fun!
