Editorial Reviews

Devastatingly corrosive, erupting with somber, bone-chilling guitar work, pounding rock-driven drumming, and a fierce metallic attack with brutal vocals, KYLESA is a dynamic metal-punk hybrid driven directly and to the point by the musicians who previously made up DAMAD. Former DAMAD members now pick up vocal duties with the addition of second guitarist Laura. KYLESA echoes the zenith of DAMAD, but the music of Savannah, Georgia’s KYLESA has its own feel and crushing attack. KYLESA recorded this LP in two sessions at the JAM ROOM in Columbia, SC. The eight songs are diverse, showcasing the intricate playing ability and rock affinity that was apparent in DAMAD, but they also deliver an intensely heavy pounding assault. Cover art by Pushead!

Yet another fine gem thats goes unnoticed. This is one album that is truly worth seeking out. Featuring ex-members of Damad (one of the South's best heavy bands to date), Kylesa plays a mix of hardcore, punk, sludgy heavy metal, and psychedelia. Imagine what would happen if Bloodlet crashed headfirst with Black Flag and Neurosis, and that might steer you in the right direction. Don't let this fool you--Kylesa have a sound all their own. Their music is built up by three screamers, two shredding guitars, dirgy bass work, and extremely kinetic drumming. These guys really hit their stride when they allow some of the psychedelia to shine (ie the guitar work in "The Scarab")or when they team up for a crushingly heavy riff. It is impossible not to groove to this stuff. Be sure to check them out live, as their impressive set remains one of the better shows Ive had the experience of seeing. If you like what you hear here, be sure to check out Damad, Cream Abdul Babar, Meatjack, Eyehategod, Isis, Bloodlet, and Breach.
