great product,

This mill works like a charm at a lot cheaper price than any other ceramic mill that I was able to find. I am using it with some Celtic sea salt that seemed to be a lot more moist than other sea salt that I had used and my old mill would not grind it. This mill does so perfectly.

I never thought it would be so difficult to find a mill that would grind wet sea salt.
I tried a Peugeot: Is anything coming out? Nope... Hmm...adjust the knob, maybe? Nope... Try shaking it, maybe? Nope... Then came a William Bounds model. Even on the fine setting, the salt came out in clumps. Finally I got this Kyocera, and voila! A nice, even spray of salt. Was that too much to ask? Thank you, Kyocera.

Perfect Sea Salt Mill,
By
This review is from: Kyocera Ceramic Fine Mill, White Top (Kitchen)
Finally...Like others have said...this one really works on the damp coarse sea salt!!!! I've been using it for over a month and it has never clogged!! The design of this mill is near perfect....no mess from the mill sitting on it's grinder like most mills....This beauty sits on it's amply sized glass resevoir...the grinder is then protected from dirt and dust by it's easy to remove cap!! I can't say enough about this mill....I've used other very pricey models that were total crap. I'm buying all my kids one for Christmas!!!!

Save your money!,

I've owned several of these grinders for a couple of years now; out of the 8 I bought, I have 3 that are still in one piece. The problems? The rotating grinder heads have all broken laterally. They also have a quality control problem in that the same sized grinding heads do not grind the same. In short, a good idea with third-rate manufacturing materials holding the ceramic.

It worked perfectly. And, unlike a similar one I purchased and returned, it has instructions and very few parts.

Works great for all salts,

I purchased the Kyocera pepper grinder and it worked so good I had to get the white one for my sea salts. I use all different kinds of salts, some wet, some dry. The grinder works great on all kinds. I get a nice fine spray of fine salt. I have another salt grinder I use if I want a nice chunky grind, but for salting my food once it's prepared I use this. The glass base also has a frosted finish which acts as a gripping surface. Wonderful grinder. I highly recommend it.

I highly recommend the Kyocera Ceramic Mills. I have eight, a mixture of the FINE and COARSE mills. I have mills filled with: Cumin, Ajwain, Cardamon seeds, Fennel, Fenugreek, and Allspice (for the allspice, you need to crack them first, so they are smaller, which is easy to do in a morter and pestal once a year when you refill). I did not have success grinding my own coriander seeds. I have larger ceramic mills for Salt and Peppercorns.
The result is so much easier than grinding all my own spices -- it takes seconds -- I grab a grinder and add freshly ground spices to most dishes I cook. Also, it's very easy to control amounts. Adding a few twists of cumin here, half a twist of cardamon there. I found that this small up-front investment in mills has led me to use my spices a lot more! I'm a fan!

Arrived in excellent condition, all well. Transaction excellent. However, no fault of the seller, I have noticed with this type of mill that some of what you have just ground falls back into the container when you set it down. If you are seeking freshly ground pepper, etc, eventually the jar is half full of pepper or spice you ground earlier, maybe even weeks earlier. The kind of mill with the grinder on the bottom, which unfortunately has a tendency to leave a ring of ground stuff on your counter/table, does not do this.

Happy little salt mill,

A few years ago I started to notice a pattern of decay with the salt grinders you usually find in kitchen stores. The plastic grinding surfaces wear out quickly or the square metal rod running through eventually corrodes. This mill answers both those problems by putting ceramic surfaces in the top. There is also a lid on it which snaps off easily. It's probably meant as a dust lid as it doesn't seem to keep out humidity, not 100% anyway. Still, after a few weeks use, a little salt is collecting at the top of the mechanism and I haven't noticed any liquid running into the jar.
The salt grains produced are smaller than regular table salt (maybe 1/3 the size) but not superfine, like you could get from a mortar and pestle. Not that that's bad. It also grinds fairly quickly, though I haven't counted how many turns it takes to make a teaspoonful. I have every confidence that it will last many years. The wife likes it a lot. I haven't yet gotten used to having to remove the lid and turn it over. I put only 4 stars because I don't know about the humidity issue yet.

Not good for Celtic Sea Salt,

This grinder does not work on unprocessed Celtic Sea Salt.
It works no better/no worse than other grinders on pepper. |
