Great Phone ... Way Better than Motorola,
By A. Mont (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kyocera KX2 Koi Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
After owning a motorola t720, i don't think I'll ever buy anything else with the motorola name. It had horrible battery life and it was completely full of glitches. This phone is a huge upgrade and the swivel design has caught on since other companies are now making phones that look exactly like this Kyocera(like the Sony Ericcson swivel.) Here are the pros and cons
Pros: Good battery life(Make sure you have a screensaver activated) Great menus Huge Screen Ability to answer and make calls while phone is closed You don't have to swivel it open to answer! Voice dialing speakerphone Good price if you buy with service Cons: 1.2 megapixel Camera not as good as some of the newer phones I wish it could swivel in both directions I've had it for a year and I haven't got any scratches on the screen and no dust inside the screen like my old motorola, and I've dropped it 3 times.

Cool Phone,

I've had the KX2 for about 6 months now and I'll say that it's a cool phone that impresses everyone, including myself. However there are a few things making me consider a different phone. To begin, the swivel design is awesome. But when people ask me to use the phone, I assume they already know it swivels, and freak out when they try to open it like a filp phone, fearing they'll break it. Another thing is, since the screen is always exposed, I'm always afraid that I'll drop it and break it (I've already chipped the screen), but I'll admit that it hasn't shown any scratches. Third, the signal seems to be weak and this phone doesn't get the clearest sound where I live (suburbs). Fourth the battery life is pathetic. You're likely to see battery "bars" reduce after one call- I have to charge it every night. Also some annoying things are that the antenna is extremely long, and the speakerphone quality is pretty pathetic. "Superphonic" ringtones (real music) sound really crackly and bad, as well. Also, as a Kyocera phone, there are not as many accessories that work with it. For example, it isn't Bluetooth enabled like Motorolas, so no wireless headsets.
But after saying all of that, I admit, the cool features balance these out. Indeed, whenever I make a phonecall in public, people come up to me and ask to see it. If you like attention and cool features, this phone is for you. If you like a quality phone, maybe a Motorola or Samsung, which is what I'll probably do next.

Great Phone,
This review is from: Kyocera KX2 Koi Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
I love the kx2. It's the best mobile phone I've ever had. I live in a rural area and it gets great reception. It has great features also and it's sturdy. I have dropped mine a few times and it still works fine plus the screen doesn't show any scratches. I only wish it had bluetooth and was v-cast capable. If you want to extend battery life you can turn on power saver you can still see the screen fine in power saver mode.

All in all this phone does the job.Downside, not bluetooth enabled & picture quality is only slightly better then a pre 90's cheap camera.I use this in construction and have dropped it twice in concrete, once on 3' of water and to many times to count on the ground.Never any problems(even in the water just turned off, dryed out and good as new).If not for the camera and bluetooth features it would easy be 5 stars.

KX2 Koi,

I've used this phone for over a year and love it. Easy to use. I've had Kyoceras before (candybar /stick style) and all the screens went bad. This ones going great. Only con has been problems finding real music type ringtones and not the midi style. I was worried about the pivot style hinge when I got it but it hasn't had any problems nor has it loosened with use.
I use the extended life battery. Footnote: October 2009: Sadly, my little Koi has finally gone to cellphone heaven. It lasted 4 fabulous years. In the end, it developed a problem where the sound would suddenly drop to where I couldn't hear. I tried Kyocera and Verizon but no one had the software I needed to reinstall that would have fixed the problem. I upgraded to the LG Dare, which I am enjoying, and happily, in the Dare's screen saver collection, is a very similar animated screen saver of a koi pond (it's in the "graffiti" collection.) I would have used my KX2 forever had it not gone belly up. But 4 years was a good, long run.

GREAT PHONE!,

This is about the fourth Kyocera phone I have purchased and it has been the best! I have had "NO" problems. The only thing that bothered me when I first got it was the cover that came with it, very inconvenient, but I went to the Kyocera web sight and purchased the swivel cover that fits great on it. So if anyone need the cover go to [...]and get it for about 16 bucks. I agree with everyone on when people use it, it does scare you when they try to pry it open (smile), I scream at them.

I did a ton of research b4 buying this phone. Only had it a week so still getting familiar with it. But so far it's great was highly rated on cnet by both editors and users. all features are great. couldn't believe only 2 customer comments on amazon so decided to weigh in. people initially put off by the swivel and maybe the size but v light carries well in your pocket. Verizon store told me when it first came out they didn't sell any but now they can't keep in stock. People discovering it. Only prob is short battery life may be I have a faulty battery will check this out. Seems to be a common complaint with lots of phones.

Overpriced,

I purchased one of these koi's in March. It does have a lot of features, but is way overpriced. The camera pictures aren't the best, and the phone itself is not durable. The swivel function gets loose, and won't stay open. The phone does not fit comfortably with your ear, so forget about resting it on your shoulder to free your hands. Not gonna happen. The anntena is junk, also. This isn't made for anyone with big fingers, most men will not be cozy with this phone. The keys are recessed, so dialing mistakes are frequent. This phone does have a lot of memory, so keeping games and pictures or videos isn't usually a problem. I do wish the battery was better quality. Games, photo taking and texting kills the battery- so that almost 3 hour talk time just doesn't happen. And if the battery does die on you, the phone powers off and will not let you turn it back on until it decides it wants to. SO forget about using it with ac charger after the battery dies. This phone was not worth the 270 I paid for it, I equally like the samsen phone I bought for 30 bucks. Wait until the KOI gets marked down before you purchase it, or be dissapointed

I love it,
This review is from: Kyocera KX2 Koi Phone (Verizon Wireless) (Wireless Phone)
This phone is cool. The only downside to it is that when its open (it swivels open by the way) its kind of big. Otherwise its great. The camera takes very good pics and it has a flash. It also has a 15 second video recorder. The sound is great too. Its got a whole bunch of cool features. Everyone I know wants my phone now.
