5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome knife!
I bought this knife for my mother as a Christmas gift. It cuts very well and has stayed as sharp as it was out of the box for almost a whole year now! Im very impressed with ceramic blades. Im pretty sure she only uses this knife and another ceramic Kyocera knife I got her. It makes cutting almost anything in the kitchen very easy. Hightly recommended!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Game-changer
I got this as a test--to see how a ceramic blade would compare with high-end Japanese and German steel.

The result--pretty good. It's very handsome--especially the black blade--but so light in the hand that it's a bit hard to control, and there are lots of "don't"s (Don't pry, twist, drop, or hack) that require attentiveness in using it. Out of the box, it's...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Knife, January 18, 2011
This review is from: Kyocera Revolution Series 4-1/4 Inch Utility Knife, Black Blade (Kitchen)
It is quite sharp, as sharp as my Shun utility knife but it doesn't fit the hand as well and feels a bit awkward and lite. I probably need to get used to it. But is a good value for what seems to be a good quality knife. The ceramics, rigid and hard and prone to chipping if miss used so they're recommended mainly for slicing and this one works great for that.

This was a gift for someone that has wanted a ceramic knife for a very long time. The product is great, and we received it very quickly.

Well made, attractive, simple in form & function, does the job nicely. Before I owned 3 ceramic knives, I used it to hold my steel usuba as well. With the growing popularity of ceramic knives, perhaps in the future, they'll make a larger knife block.

Out of the box, it's amazingly sharp, but the keen edge did not hold up very long--a big surprise. Although I didn't attempt a scientific comparison, my guess is that the edge did not last any longer than the blades made by Shen, Mac, and Wustof. Restoring that edge, of course, is a specialized business that Kyocera recommends not be done at home.

And so, I still find occasional use for this implement, but less and less as time gows on. I am sure that for light use, it will be more than satisfactory. For more than that, the competition seems to be ahead.
