I'd only recommend this if you're a hard-core music collector. The price is a bit high - but it is a Japan import from Kyoto Jazz Massive, who have two different Crossbreed releases. If you're a KJM collector and like that style, along with Truby Trio etc. you'll be all set with this. Otherwise, this CD is very very enjoyable if you can get beyond the price. From the Fourth World Track to Kyoto Jazz Massive's own track it's a very solid and impressive album. In true form, it emphasis some Brazilian beats, European fusion and electronics along with simple and real instrumentation in the songs. What is this CD like? Well, if you have ever heard "Serve Chilled Vol 3", I'd say it's a lot similar to the second disc in that two disc compilation. But I'd also say that it could be a STRONG candidate to be a sister to "Glucklich Vol. 4", released by Rainer Truby who, of course, does a great deal of collaboration with Kyoto Jazz Massive and Wei Chi and etc. One more positive thing about this CD - it has a group on it called "Los Ladrones", who are based out of the UK I believe. Their individual disc is FANTASTIC... but I think you have to check out Amazon.co.uk to actually get it. Good luck with the decision.

I heard the track "eclipse" while on an aircraft and was so impressed I ripped out the page from the magazine and hunted the CD down. This EP is a scorcher - the main complaint being it isn't long enough - particularly given the mood it creates in the room once rolling. KJM combine very tight jazz/groove licks with elegant Bardotesque vocals in View From Her Room to a stronger drum and bass dub in Eclipse and Calmaria. It wouldn't be surprising to hear some of these tracks ending up on Cafe Del Mar number 11 or similar compliations. Half an hour of fine funk sounds. Hola!

If you're a Bebel Gilberto Fan, you will love this release. It features her at vocals for the jazzy track "The View from Her Room". I picked this up months ago and still enjoy it. What can you say about Kyoto Jazz Massive? They're outstanding. I wish I could see more of them here in the United States but that's just not the case. This is a rather pricey EP (there are only 7 songs) but imported from Japan, I would have to say this is a must have for the KJM collecters. This and the two CrossBreed releases available here. So pick it up. And if you like this, you might also look into the other Bossa Compilations that they've featured in - from Glucklich to the many tracks they've remixed. |
