Kyrgyzstan (Odyssey Illustrated Guides) [Paperback]

Rowan Stewart (Author), Susie Weldon (Author)

Book Description

Odyssey Kyrgyz Republic July 20, 2002
This unique and stunningly illustrated book, the first English-language guide exclusively dedicated to Kyrgyzstan, provides up-to-date practical information on the full range of travel possibilities to all parts of the country, along with a clear overview of the historical, cultural and social context to help in understanding this complex country. Kyrgyzstan's mighty Tian Shan mountains formed the Soviet Empire's impressive border with China and helped to keep this small land impenetrable to visitors. Opened to the world just ten years ago, Kyrgyzstan offers a rich history and ancient, hospitable cultures, as well as tremendous scenic beauty and diversity.

About the Author

Rowan Stewart's passion for Central Asia began in 1992, when she spent six months in the region as a tour guide, and deepened as an independent traveler. In 1993, she bicycled 1,120 miles along the Karakorum Highway from near Urumqi, China to Islamabad, Pakistan. In recent years she has made three trips to Kyrgyzstan and neighboring countries in former Soviet Central Asia and has spent three years working for the region in the tourist industry. Susie Weldon is an experienced journalist who has worked for newspapers in both England and Hong Kong and is currently the Features Writer of an English newspaper. During the past 13 years she has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and Asia.
