Book Description

Keep it strictly business? Her heart demands something more...

The last thing columnist Stanna needs is a fight with her hopelessly chauvinistic brand-new boss, Jake. The attractive man turns the office into an undeniably sizzling environment, but his column suggestions are positively Neanderthal! She's determined to reform Jake. He's determined to train Stanna. Neither is willing to acknowledge the electrifying attraction that pulls at them both.

"Crooks definitely has a sultry slow-burning writing style that builds anticipation at each turn of the page." - Zee, Fire Pages

"Crooks' L.A. CAVEMAN is a wonderfully written contemporary romance novel with a great storyline that was fast paced and kept my heart racing." - Romance Junkies

"L.A. Caveman is a well-written, funny, sexy, sweet story that you will enjoy" - Yvette Lowe, Siren Book Reviews

"Reminiscent of a Hepburn and Tracey movie with office romance and a conflict involving two very strong-minded and very philosophically opposed main characters." - Phoebe Imel, Addicted2Romance

"I laughed, I gasped and I tingled. Ms. Crooks has penned a riveting, funny tale about a woman in a man's world." - Seriously Reviewed

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Slow Burning Novel September 17, 2011
By Zee
Format:Kindle Edition
L.A. Caveman is a novel that showcases a real relationship where two people are attracted to one another but can't stand each other's personalities. There are many natural bumps in the road that was a test for Jake and Stanna, and because their relationship starts on thin ice, how they handle each situation made a huge impact on their relationship with one another, both work and personal. It takes a while for Jake and Stanna to get on the same page, but when they finally do understand one another, the chemistry explodes between them. Even though this novel is not length page-wise, Crooks definitely has a sultry slow burning writing style that builds anticipation at each turn of the page. L.A. Caveman is an excellent novel and Christina Crooks continues to win me over with her work!

I actually rated L.A. Caveman 4.5 Stars, but Amazon doesn't do halves.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read with well written characters February 16, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is my first review of a book on Amazon and I must say that I found L.A. Caveman to be a great enjoyable read. I could not put my Kindle down as I read this whole text in a 24 hour period :) I was immediately pulled into the story and found myself seeing a great Hepburn/Tracey like story playing out before me, with a touch of suspense/mystery, and a great romantic pairing that did not let me down at any point in the book. I was surprised by the way ALL of the characters came to life and made me care about them, and most importantly laugh with them. I loved the office staff and felt like I was going to work with Stanna & Jake at Men's Weekly each time they stepped off the elevator.

With all this said, why did I give this book a 4 star review rather than a 5? I wanted more of the Ian story, please do not think that there was anything wrong with Ian's story as written, my comment is just that I wanted more of the drama and friction that he brought to the story. I would say more but I don't want to spoil the story for anyone else :)

3.0 out of 5 stars L.A. Caveman April 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the "enemies to lovers" storyline and this one was very good. Stanna is a writer at a men's weekly magazine; she writes a "woman's view" column. She's on track to become editor, until suddenly there's a new owner and Ian, her editor and mentor, is fired. Jake, the new owner, calls her in to let her go as well, but he can't - Stanna has a contract. In lieu of firing her, Jake's intent is to make life miserable for Stanna so she'll quit. Stanna has no intention of going anywhere...

From their opposing viewpoints to Jake's Neanderthal views about women, I was rooting for Stanna all the way. But that sizzle was there, and they both knew it. Once they agreed to disagree, Jake grew on me, and I started rooting for "them". Of course there were some misunderstandings they had to overcome, as well as their own stubbornness, to make things work.

What I didn't like: I didn't like the villain. No - I know you're not supposed to like the villain, that's not what I mean. He was almost a caricature , I could picture him sitting in his elegantly appointed rooms, twirling his overly waxed mustache, plotting his next move. *spoiler: We never found out why he owed such a huge amount of money to the mob. I honestly felt like Ms. Crooks could have delved a bit more into his storyline and maybe made it a bit more believable. I also felt like her roommate's storyline didn't add anything at all to the story. I would have preferred more interaction between Jake and Stanna instead of skipping ahead weeks at a time.

This was an interesting story that I wish would have gone a little deeper into the relationship dynamics between Jake and Stanna and less with the secondary characters. I do think that Jake and Stanna's hatred/passion for each other was great. The tension between them was so thick I could almost feel it while I was reading!

I don't like militant feminism, so the heroine got on my nerves. The hero wasn't meant to be likeable, but at least he was logical. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, a bit choppy in the plot
The idea behind this book is great! But the plot is a bit choppy with co-workers dropping in and out and an ex-boss with connections to a never-really-named group of bad guys. Read more

This book is awful. There's truly no other way to describe it, it's just a poorly executed story line with horrible stereotypes and nonsensical actions/resolutions. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Stereotypes abound in this office
The premise of this book was stereotypes. I get that. I did not get why everyone played up to their stereotype, would not compromise, or listen to the other side. Read more
