Book Description

Five friends. West L.A. The power goes out, and everything with it. And it's not coming back. They are normal people, not survivalists, caught in the worst place they could be, surrounded by looter gangs and millions who will soon be desperate and dying.

Young, fit, but ill-prepared, their choices are few and stark.

Jeremy’s Run, L.A. Dark, is the first installment of a serial story in five parts that chronicles an epic struggle of the human spirit to survive, to prevail over the odds, to retain one’s humanity, and to keep alive the hope for a new and better future.

"This author is a surprise and a real treat. I read a lot of this genre and some is good, and some is practically unreadable...and then some just surprises the hell out of you how well written and captivating the story is." -- Reviewer W. B. Phillips

"Loved this book. Can't wait to read book 2. Please keep writing books like this one. I would tell everyone I know to read this book." -- Reader, Amanda Simmons

Book 2, Blood Loss, is now available on Amazon [ASIN B00DGT48IC]
Book 3, Run Through the Jungle, is now available on Amazon [ASIN B00GZ0L990]
Book 4, The Prophet's Niece, is scheduled for release in 2014

4.0 out of 5 stars A Satisfying Read May 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jeremy's Run is 95% conversation, 5% action, but don't let that throw you--the conversation is highly informative and the action, when it happens, is necessary, logical, and highly satisfying (to his credit, the author doesn't "invent" situations just to stage a fight).

Set in West Los Angeles in the "near future", this story explores the fate of five Angelinos who suddenly find themselves facing the unthinkable--the end of civilization as they know it. We've seen many books and movies on similar subjects, but most are vehicles for high-octane kick-ass and (in the case of film) mind-boggling CGI. Jeremy's Run rises above the pack in that it takes the subject seriously. Each of the characters (even the dog) brings something unique to the situation, and through extensive dialogue between the friends, the reader can learn a great deal about how to survive such a catastrophe.

There are some flaws, however: In view of what transpires, I expected more carnage and devastation than was described; e.g., the story takes place a few miles from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), but we only hear one jetliner go down. In real life, they should be falling like leaves. LAX lands a plane every two minutes (last time I checked--maybe more today), and with fried electronics there should be twenty or thirty planes spiraling down within minutes of the disaster. (I could be wrong about that--since I first posted this review, I learned that there is some uncertainty about just how vulnerable the average jetliner is to a hostile EMP attack; in view of this, the greater danger might be mid-air collisions when there is no longer a control tower to direct traffic above a busy airport.)

But that's a minor issue that only a nit like me would pick at.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!! June 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a great book for anyone that lives in a large city and has ever considered what might happen if TSHTF. The characters are very engaging, the plot fast moving, and even though there really wasn't a defining climatic moment, the plot story was well written enough that I had to keep reading it. I've already purchased the first sequel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great apocalyptic action adventure. May 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If Amazon had a subscription button for series novels I'd click this one in an L.A. Minute.

It starts out a slow burn but catches fire real quick as choices on how to survive dwindle.

The story is gritty and realistic with believable characters that you could trust. Well, maybe, as long as they don't buckle in this pressure cooker scenario. The prospect of what's in store for this group of friends is kick in the gut scary.

I bought the book, 'The Fourth Turning' which is sitting in my library unread. After reading about it in the Addendum to 'Jeremy's Run', The Fourth Turning is now on the top of my to do list.

I'm hooked. Gimme more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Start to a new series. July 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I finished this novel in one sitting. If you are a fan of post apocalyptic fiction this is a good choice. The setting is in LA which has always fascinated me for end of the world fiction as most authors automatically write off LA as a non survivable area. The characters are well thought out and well rounded. It is nice that the main character has a survival mindset but is not sitting on a bunker of unlimited food and weapons. This is a definite winner and well worth the time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Apocolyptic certainly; fantastic book definitely! July 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow. I loved this book. I loved it so much I didn't think I could stand it until I could check for the second book in the series. Yes, it could be depressing but I did not get that vibe from this book. Yes, it does make you want to go out and start stockpiling water and food for the future (because this seems like a story that could happen for real tomorrow). All in all though, I really enjoyed the story and just purchased Blood Loss, the second book in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start for a new author, immensely enjoyable August 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What I liked best of this author was that he/she took the time for character development in addition to the plot. All too many authors skip over this part of the book. But it's the characters that carry the story through a series. Not the plot.

In addition, this genre requires that the author pass on critical info to make the plot believable to the generally uninformed public without getting bogged down in too much trivial details. This the author excels in. He/she carries the plot along & sustains it as he/she builds believable characters that you can relate to.

I highly recommend this read and look forward to the next in the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Done July 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Good book and good dialogue. I'm pretty certain those kids need to get moving sooner rather than later but the prevalent attitude of let's wait and see by the girls is pretty common. I cannot even imagine being in a large city if TSHTF *shudder* but this book is probably a pretty optimistic view of what might happen. Well written and edited.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if you don't love fiction... May 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read this book. I normally don't do fiction, but this book was a fast and fun read. Great dialog, amazing attention to detail! Can you combine the detail of James Joyce, the suspense of the Left Behind series with the science from the New York Times Science times? I am pretty sure he did. Loved it! I would recommend this for a vacation read.
