L is for Liberty is a book that is beautifully illustrated. I am looking forward to sharing this book with my daughter on the 4th of July. And introducing her to Lady Liberty and what she stands for. If I have a complaint it is that this book should also printed as a board book! A terrific addition to any home library!

I bought this book to introduce my three and a half year old son to The Fourth of July and all it stands for. I think it does the job well-as well as any book could for a child that young. The illustrations are truly multi-cultural. My son especially loved the page with the fireworks. And, its especially good for a New Yorker or someone planning a trip to New York, because we will follow the book with a field trip to the Statue of Liberty. Oh, and even though it's called L is for Liberty, it is not an alphabet book. I would have given it five stars but my son enjoyed it once and didn't ask to hear it again. (I just gave it to him today). But if he doesn't ask for it again, I'm still glad to have marked the holiday with an appropriate book, and I would be surprised if he doesn't want to hear it again, especially when we go to see Lady Liberty.

I like that this book is very gung-ho on America. This is a great read-aloud book for young children. We also have the Step 2 "Statue of Liberty" (by Lucille Recht Penner) for early readers, and the EXCELLENT "The Story of the Statue of Liberty" (Betsy and Giulio Maestro) that is more suitable for third grade & up book reports.
I recommend all three. While they overlap on material, all three are very engaging and well-done.

A great reflection upon our ideals which continue to carry over from one generation to the next. Excellant visual depictions of of our American spirit. Vibrant and alive.
