a long lost gem fades into obscurity...,

its a real shame that Barkmarket broke up. yeah, Dave Sardy would rather earn the big bucks by being a big name producer for Rick Rubin's American label. thats great for him, but sucks for us Barkmarket fans. and to make matters even worse, practically all of Barkmarket's catalog is out of print (including L Ron), which doesn't really make much sense. this album is one of my all-time favorites. but I'm not quite sure about the whole L Ron thing. is this meant to be a sarcastic poke, or are the Barkmarket guys really scientologists? if they are, I've lost all respect for them. but anyway, this album is the pinacle of their greatness. it rocks, its raw & primative, its cryptic, its poetic and creative, and its original. we can only guess what they could have accomplished if they made another album after this one. well, this is the age of the reunions. comebacks = $$$. maybe Sardy will come to his senses and consider the possibilities. I'm sure the other 2 guys in the band could use the money. God knows I would be happy to part with my hard earned cash for another Barkmarket album.

Essential recording of the 90's,

Emo bands Far and Will Haven cited Barkmarket as their inspirations, so I thought Barkmarket must be good. The name DAVE SARDY was mentioned a few times, and I recalled seeing this name as the engineer in the liner notes of some of my favorite albums (System of a Down, Vision of Disorder etc.). Finally found out that Sardy is the lead singer/guitarist of Barkmarket, so I decided to get "L. Ron." "L. Ron" is my personal fave of the Barkmarket albums. "Gimmick" is a great album as well, but what's so great about "L. Ron" is definitely the production. The loud crunchy guitars, bass and percussion come out perfectly in that "dirty and raw" type of way, and it's no surprise Dave Sardy is a very busy producer/engineer these days. I've never heard percussion sound this good on an album. And of course, Barkmarket write great songs. All of them are good, but "Visible Cow", "How Are You", "Lay Down" and especially "Shiner" are some of the greatest hard rock songs I've ever heard on any album. Barkmarket may have influenced the aforementioned emo bands (Even Limp Bizkit cites them as inspiration!) but they're definitely not emo, though Sardy sings and screams with strong conviction that the songs have an emotional charge about them. Great songs with the perfect production to match, Barkmarket is one of those hardly heard of bands that continue to have a huge influence on the new generation of hard rock bands. Definitely an essential recording.

Hardest *Rocking* (not metal, really) band.... of the last decade? The only thing wrong here is that they weren't hugely successful and aren't around anymore. Buy it used, stick it in, turn it up, be flabbergasted. That's all there is to it. I need special dentistry now, because I've been gnashing my teeth together while listening to this cd.
