Mallory-Johnson Explores The Many Level Of Friendship In L. A. SUMMER,
This review is from: L.A. Summer: Friends Til' the Blood End (Paperback)
Can people of different circumstances come together to not only become friends but use their unique qualities to help the others? In author Sheryl Mallory-Johnson's Young Adult read L. A. Summer: Friends 'Til The Blood End the answer comes off a big YES. Mikki, Carlette and Stacy are in for life lessons that they will never forget, and the author allows us to tag along for the ride.
While I believe the book is perfect for readers of all ages, the book is geared towards teens who might find it difficult to find a book that speaks to them where they might be in life. So many young people believe that adults aren't listening to them and the issues they are having to contend with. In L. A. Summer, however, Mallory-Johnson shows that she is not only aware of what our young people are dealing with but she wants them to know that they don't have to go through it alone. The result is a book that is full of full and adventure as well as the perils that come with everyday life and the choices we make. Add this one to your reading list and get an extra copy for a friend. They will definitely appreciate it.

This review is from: L.A. Summer: Friends Til' the Blood End (Paperback)
Sheryl Mallory-Johnson's debut YA novel, "L.A. Summer: Friends 'Til The Bloodend" sizzles with teen drama. From the moment I was introduced to her three sassy characters, Mikki, Stacey, and Carlette, I was immediately drawn into their world--the exciting, yet precarious streets of Los Angeles.
With Mikki returning to her hometown of L.A. since moving away with her family to Boone, Texas, this sheltered country girl is looking for love and excitement. And she finds it alright. But in the one boy that her best friend Stacey can't stand. While Mikki is stoked about spending time with the boy of her dreams inspite of Stacey's dissapproval, Stacey must face her own challenges--summer school! If she doesn't pass Algebra, poor Stacey is doomed! And then there's Stacey's new best friend, who lives in Mikki's old house, Carlette--Carlette is one sassy little momma. Carlette thinks she's grown enough to kick it with a man nearly twice her age 'cause she's got a body like a woman. But is Carlette really ready to be a woman, or will she find herself in way over her head? The plot thickens as the three girls go through a transformation of their lives and eventually come of age during one hot summer in L.A. Sheryl Mallory-Johnson does an exceptional job of capturing the heart and voice of today's teen. Edgy, funny, and real. |
