"Boyfriend" finally gets an electro house mix...plus you get L.O.V.E.!, March 17, 2006
This review is from: L.O.V.E. (Audio CD)
Not only do you get a remix of L.O.V.E. featuring Missy Elliott(barely), which has a bass booming clunky beat, but we finally get a remix of Boyfriend that blends in perfectly with the current electro house trend, with a driving beat and pulsing bassline that retains the retro 80s feel of the original version--plus it clocks in at over 5 minutes long!

Why I L.O.V.E Ashlee, April 21, 2008
This review is from: L.O.V.E. (Audio CD)
I am often asked by my family what is the appeal of Ashlee Simpson. After all, to them, she can't sing and she is famous merely because of her sister's fame (and talent).Well I have often asked myself the same question since I am NOT the TYPICAL Ashlee fan. No, Ashlee is NOT a strong singer. There are times while listening to her music I wish she had a stronger voice to really make me feel the emotion of the song. There are times when her rebel yell is more like a spoiled whine. Yes,she did get a HUGE boost from her sister's fame. Ask yourself how many up-and-coming singers get their own MTV show and subsequent 24 hour promotion for that show.
However, there is something about her. A strength, beauty, truth to her music and personality. You have to admire her courage to get back on stage after suffering two major setbacks. I think she has a lot of courage and tenacity for doing that. She seems like the kind, cute, friendly girl next door who is a BLAST to be around. That feeling of fun, joy, and happiness is in her music. I put her music on and find myself adrift in some world where I dance(see the songs "Autobiography","Dancing Alone",Surrender"),flirt("La La","Burning Up" and smile("Pieces of Me")all day. Occasionally, I yell("Boyfriend"),cry ("Beautifully Broken","Catch Me When I Fall","Eyes Wide Open")and reflect("Shadow", "Giving it All Away")on the darker aspects of life. There is a strengh in her songs not only in the writing(it should be noted that Ashlee IS a VERY TALENTED songwriter co-writing ALL of her songs on BOTH of her first CDS)but in the execution.
This brings me to the current single being reviewed "L.O.V.E." This song is FUN. I can't stop myself from singing along, wildly shaking my hair, and swaying with my hips. Any independent woman has got to love the lyrics and the remix is even better. She doesn't take junk!!! She knows what she wants, demands respect and knows she deserves it. There is a sense of clarity in the song. This undercurrent of strengh and clarity can be found in alot of her other songs such as "I Am Me", "Love Me for Me", "Nothing New." Also, she is not a bad actress either. So ask me again why I am a Ashlee Simpson fan. I'll say "Put this under your skin/I am me and I won't change for anyone/Me and I won't change for anyone/For anyone like you."
Her music, like her career, is only getting better. She is taking it to a new and more mature level with singles such as "Invisible" and "Outta My Head." I am sure that her new album BITTERSWEET WORLD will bring her continued success. Ashlee in some capacity will always shine bright and shouldn't such a nice girl have that pleasure.
