Closing DOORS, November 14, 2010
This review is from: L.A. Woman (180 Gram Vinyl) (Vinyl)
This sixth ELEKTRA release by the DOORS was this quartet's best since
STRANGE DAYS, and as it turned out, the group's last hurrah with front man Jim Morrison.
The set's opener, "The Changeling," shows most clearly the self-inflicted wear and tear Morrison had endured over five years. "Love Her Madly," "L.A. Woman" and "Riders On The Storm" were legitimate hits-- "Hyacinth House" is also excellent. Despite the gushing of diehard fans, what's left over here is somewhat ordinary. But that was always the pattern with this group-- they'd astound everyone with a classic like "Riders" and then bewilder us with the march-beat laden "L'America." The full-sounded musicality of "Hyacinth House" would be offset by a dragging, bareboned "Cars Hiss By My Window."
From 1967 to '71, the DOORS had undergone many stylistic shifts. At any given moment they could be Top 40 hitmakers, psychedelic wordsmiths, political heralds, frothy pop artists, and here, a blues-grunge band. It's hard to imagine what else these guys would have created had Morrison lived. L.A. WOMAN seems as fitting an au revoir as any. One thing is certain: you didn't know what was coming next from the DOORS, and it's too bad we were never destined to find out.

Getting better, March 7, 2010
This review is from: L.A. Woman (180 Gram Vinyl) (Vinyl)
I had to return the first album because "love her madly" was skipping. Amazon sent another one out next day mail, and that one could have been packed better. The box was to small so the cover got bent a little. so I kept the first cover and returned the sum of the 2 bad ones. Amazon had been getting better at shipping records, and the first was not their fault. From what I read RTI (the co. who presses the record) had problems w/ the first runs which was quit a while ago and maybe I received an old pressing
As for the record this is the first doors remaster I have heard and it's awesome! Well done by Bernie Grundman Studios.

180 grams of L.A. gold, January 12, 2012
This review is from: L.A. Woman (180 Gram Vinyl) (Vinyl)
My vinyl collection has started. What else would i get first besides my favorite bands best album. Of course L.A. Woman. Sounds fantastic on my new Sony (plug plug) record player. I can feel the weight difference between these new 180 gram albums and some of my original prints. Not sure but i would think the album would flex less after repeated usage. We'll see. Looking around seeing prices of $30 and well above for classic rock albums makes this even better. Under $30 is what i paid for this. If you like The Doors and vinyls then it's a no brainer. If you don't like The Doors-GO AWAY! I don't wanna know you!
