NOT hot, NOT cool, NOT fun to listen to. Such a great show, if only the second season had music to match.

EZ girls' score is profoundly awful.
The music from the first season was amazing and it introduced me to a lot of great new artists (Kinnie Starr and Fiest are among the best). So what happened? Where did all the talent go? The music has become laughable...
The saving grace from the second season is the commentary on the "lez boat" episode that was done by the actresses who play Shane, Dana and Alice.
During the theme song, Leisha sings "laughing, crying, breathing, f**king, make this song stop really sucking."
Ilene Chaiken and Betty should really listen to her.
When the actors are tearing apart the music, you know it's gotta be bad...

I am one of many crazy fans of The L Word and had to write this cd up on amazon. For those of you that do not know, this cd is basically a journey episode through episode of score music composed by a women who calls herself "EZGirl". If you watch the show, then you know the theme song by the group "Betty" (side note: the extended version of the theme is track 2 on this cd). EZGirl has taken Betty's song and twisted into about 25 different versions which appear on this cd. From a spanish track, to a jewish hebrew track, to a french track, to a punk rock track and so on. There are 45 tracks in all (the cd only list 44 but you get a special last call mix at the end as like a hidden track..i personally like track 36 the best but anyways..) So besides the 25 "Betty" twisted themes there is other original music composed by her that has been used on the show. Most of the score pieces are no longer than a minute and a half and on the inside cd booklet fold out the list the episode number so you know the one the songs where featured in. It's alot of fun to go back to the show and watch the scenes with the score track after you've listened to the full cd. If you want more info on EZGirl herself, check out her website at www.ezgirlmusic.com you can even preview alot of the tracks there. For all the HARDCORE L Word junkies like me, you will surely appreciate this cd as much as you do the original soundtracks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big fan of the show, this "music" ruins it, May 26, 2005
This review is from: L-Word Sessions (Score) (Audio CD)
This is an excellent TV show that was hijacked this season by ezgirl (a.k.a. one of the hairy members of BETTY). This cd is her attempt to make creative background music, but really it is just endless ridiculous versions of the awful new theme song of the show. The theme song is incredibly cheesy, and so are the subsequent versions of it. The five star reviews here are probably left by ezgirl, since she is so proud of herself.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't be fooled by this tease, May 19, 2005

Showtime certainly is no stranger to exploitation, but their latest attempt to lure in unsuspecting strangers is ridiculous! The most honest thing about this "I want my money back" attempt is how it perfectly reflects the overall bad second season of THE L WORD (I'll save my rant on Showtime's stereotypical portrayal of gay women for "Craig's List.")

I'd like to say that I WANTED to like this CD. I enjoyed last season's L WORD and both of the previous albums from the show. THIS album shows, though, that no matter how many times you tweak a tv's bad theme song, it is still bad. At least twenty of the tracks that appear here are just different versions of Betty's horrendous "The Way We Live" song which opens each episode of Showtime's sapphic show.

Since I prefer last seasons's brief but memorable (AND non-irritating) opener maybe I'm biased. Even so, the other tracks consist of nothing but extremely abbreviated score snippets. Some tracks are nothing more than moans and "tsk" sounds recorded by the EZ girl herself and the ones with promise leave you wanting way more than you should.

"Bette drunk" and "Melvin" are two emotionally pleasing tidbits (originating from episodes centering on a despondent "Bette" played by the talented Jennifer Beals) but flit by so fast you're positive you imagined them. Don't be fooled by the listing of 44 tracks (plus a "bonus"), which average less than a minute each. This is one time when "less" is NOT more.

Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer my music less sleazy and a lot more romantic; after all, when was the last time anyone enjoyed a candlelight dinner to the sounds of "Dry Hump Lover"*?

If you like soundtracks and you love The L Word, I highly recommend this CD. This is all the random techno, DJ mixed sounds you hear on the 2nd season besides all the songs they feature by various artists. I love this CD because it has all of the music from Jenny's crazy writing sessions and the mixes that accompany Shane and Carmen having sex, Tina masturbating and Bette getting drunk...an awesome award goes out to ezgirl for her mad mixing skills on this show!

Good listening from varied Artists. New artists. It's not lesbian music. You won't become a lesbian listening to it. Used on the TV Series The L Word.

5.0 out of 5 stars I had my doubts..., June 5, 2005

This review is from: L-Word Sessions (Score) (Audio CD)
Like many, my original reaction to the new theme song and the radically different score wasn't a positive one at first. As a matter of fact, by the end of the season and up until I got the CD, I was still quite sceptical about it. I was a fool.

I think the reason people have reacted so strongly to ezgirl's unique compositions is exactly that, the fact that they are unique. I love movie and tv scores but quite often, they all resemble each other. ezgirl has been bold enough to do things a little bit differently, much in the same way that "the L word" is different than other shows, and it really works. The theme song, which is actually very catchy, is predominant here with many different versions of it (including the very authentic sounding Klezmer version in Yiddish and the sexy Spanish and French versions - all of which sound very different). ezgirl has combined live instruments (something quite unusual in tv scoring) and funky synthetic sounds as well as samples from the show, her own voice and breath, and there are some surprising contributions by accomplished musicians in their own right (including Jane Siberry).

The originality of this project shows just how much ezgirl has put her heart and soul in this to produce a truly artistic take on television scoring. If I had only one wish, it would be that Ilene Chaiken had recruited her from the start of the show.
