EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
THE 200 largest public companies headquartered in the L.A. area had an aggregate market capitalization of $324 billion as of June 30. That's down 28 percent compared with a year ago.
While the recession has caused company valuations to fall, Los Angeles also has seen several large companies acquired or move from the area. The largest company acquired over the past year was Countrywide Financial Corp; the Calabasas lender was bought by Charlotte, N.C.-based Bank of America on July 1, 2008. Leaving the area was Diodes Inc., a maker of semiconductors that moved last year to Dallas.
