By far the best trackball I've used, but not perfect.,
This review is from: L-trac Laser Trackball with scroll Wheel Black USB By Ergoguys (Personal Computers)
I have used this trackball without compatibility issues under Linux, Windows 7, and Mac OS X. I only mention this because my previous favorite trackball, the Kensington SlimBlade Trackball, had this idiotic property where the 3rd and 4th buttons where non-standard. Very odd! This trackball has no such issues. Actually, let's just continue this SlimBlade Trackball comparison:
Things about this trackball that are better than the SlimBlade Trackball: Everything. 1. This trackball mouse fits my hands better. 'Case you know what they say about one with large hands? E needs a large trackball. 2. ALL buttons are recognized as expected without having to modify the input pipeline. (Seriously, Kensington was insane to make 3rd and 4th buttons non-standard on the SlimBlade) 3. The trackball tracking sensors do not require constant cleaning. The SlimBlade constantly required cleaning the stupid holes the optical sensors where in. The only issues I have are: 1. The scroll wheel could do with a bit of resistance. I find it's a bit *too* easy to move. 2. The button combination middle + right is used to change the tracking resolution. I actually use this combination. This causes problems.

I purchased this trackball because my wrist makes a cracking noise and I was worried a normal mouse was the culprit. The trackball is pretty nice. It takes some getting used to, but I like it. I also like how it's ambidextrous so I could switch it up (if I decide to). I still think a mouse is a bit easier for fine detail when drawing, but you can quickly change the resolution of the trackball so it's no problem.

Just shy of perfect. (Needs a lower price, too.),

It's getting harder and harder for us enlightened trackball users to find good pointing devices. This is as good as it gets - it has the basics (3 buttons + scrolling), it's sized and shaped ergonomically, and it's built solidly (steel rollers, hooray!). The hardware-based 3-way selectable resolution (400/800/1600 DPI) is a nice bonus. And as a Mac user, the driverless operation is very much appreciated. (The native OS X mouse driver works perfectly with it.)
It loses one star for two reasons. First, the price. Paying over $100 for a pointing device is hard to justify, especially when the Kensington Expert Mouse Optical USB Trackball for PC or Mac 64325 is $67, and the Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical (Silver) is just $26. Second, the build quality isn't perfect. I have three of these units, and on all of them, one of the ball rollers has a sticky point (you can feel the ball get a little "stuck" briefly). On two of the three, the scroll wheel gets loose in its housing. But these are small details for what is otherwise an excellent trackball.

Got one of these from Eroguys website store. After using it for a few hours I just sent a request for an RMA to return it. I found it to be extremely uncomfortable to use and no matter whcih DPI setting I selected ( 400, 800 or 1600) and no matter what speed I selected this thing just would not track correctly. Ball never felt smooth rolling at all. Using Windows 7. Went back to my trusty Logitech Trackman Marble optical trackball.

Received trackball on time and in good condition. I had not checked the dimensions and did not realize the unit was larger than expected but am glad of its size as it is easy to use with either hand. Unit is usb connection and is plug and play, no problems plugging in directly or into a hub and using. Trackball has durable and solid feel. Additional software came for added options but I have not needed those options and as yet have not tried to install the software. Trackball is much better on small desk than a mouse which requires space to move. Trackball is more comfortable to use than a mouse.

This track ball is pretty good. it has a nice big ball, sensitive and easy too use. the downside is that it is a bit too big and takes some time to get used to it, and if you're into shooting games you'll have some difficulty using this mouse, but if you're like me who mostly uses their mouse for design and basic windows surfing you'll love this mouse. :)

Been looking for one of these ever since laser mice started becoming available. It took long enough, and I'm surprised at how much a "niche" market a laser trackball is, but, at least we now have one...
And it delivers. A little pricey, but of course there's no competition. However, for me (an audio professional who uses a trackball for making hit records), this is an absolute Godsend and worth every penny. |
