From the Manufacturer

Los Angeles, 1947.
Amid the post-war boom of Hollywood's Golden Age, Cole Phelps is an LAPD detective thrown headfirst into a city drowning in its own success. Corruption is rampant, the drug trade is exploding, and murder rates are at an all-time high. In his fight to climb the ranks and do what's right, Phelps must unravel the truth behind a string of arson attacks, racketeering conspiracies and brutal murders, battling the L.A. underworld and even members of his own department to uncover a secret that could shake the city to its rotten core.

Using groundbreaking new animation technology that captures every nuance of an actor's facial performance in astonishing detail, L.A. Noire is a violent crime thriller that blends breathtaking action with true detective work to deliver an unprecedented interactive experience. Search for clues, chase down suspects and interrogate witnesses as you struggle to find the truth in a city where everyone has something to hide.

This is a fun cop/robber game that requires some puzzle solving, car chases, foot chases, and gun play. This outline is probably the biggest problem with this game, because it consists of cases to be solved that follow the same outline time and time again. Frankly, I only got through about 75% of the game because the cases tended to be too much alike. However, the game did have some interesting strong points: (1) You had the option of skipping action scenes that either were too difficult or that you simply were unable to beat; (2) You had the option of letting your partner drive between locations; and, (3) Most of the game worked well and the controls were user friendly. But on the downside, you don't have the ability to pick your save points and you can't fast forward through the cut scenes that you have already seen. Overall, this game is worth a try. Definitely not for kids.

Pretty fun and unique, set in the 1940s Los Angeles, after the war we follow a soldier who starts working as a cop and works his way up to detective, etc. throughout the game. They used a sort of face scanning to create this game so the characters are actually 3D representations of real people rather than modeled... and they use this in each case interview to determine if people are lying or not based on subtle facial cues. The environment is really cool being that it's a supposedly realistic representation of the city at that time. But with that, you get the repetition of things in that day... almost everyone wears similar clothes - men in suits and hats and women in flowery dresses. And the cases do get repetitive. I personally also finished about 75% of the game before becoming disinterested. A lot has to do with endless driving across a large city to get to cases, and the driving is just simply driving while occasionally getting yelled at for running into things or other cars. It "kind of" has an open world feel, but cases are fairly linear and there are a lot of predetermined outcomes, even though in the heat of the action you feel like you can make a difference. A bunch of side missions are available - called in to you while en route to follow the story - and those are usually short & sweet with more action.Read more ›

Best facial animation I have ever seen. That's probably the best thing there is to say about this game. Sometimes when questioning a witness you'll bring up an item that clearly contradicts their testimony but the game doesn't approve of your evidence. Phoenix wright series has the same problem. This may be published by rock star but it was developed by a totally different studio and it shows. It's nothing like the GTA series. But overall if you like playing detective/interrogation games (and there aren't many out there), this should be fun for you.

A very fun game with an engrossing storyline. Although, not quite as engaging as the GTA series, LA Noire is quite good in what it delivers as a solid police drama of the the Dragnet "Just the facts, ma'am" era. The voice-over work is top notch and the graphics are very sharp with a fine attention to detail, especially in the facial modeling.

If you haven't given this game a spin, you're missing out on a fun one.

I haven't actually played the GTA series but I have played a demo and have read lots about it. This seems like a more classy version, but still has the open world, yet goal driven world.

Pros: Complex cases make you think, keep your eyes open and at some points act like a true detective.

Cons: I stopped playing the game for a few months and it didn't bother me. The cases started to get repetitive "Go here" "look at stuff" "find this guy" "now this guy" "great lets interrogate him and even if you get it wrong, we'll still arrest him" They never really let you screw up and always point you in the right direction...there's no consequences for your actions.
