What a terrific book!, August 29, 2010
This review is from: LA PLEVITSKAYA (Paperback)
I discovered this book on a web site featuring self-published authors. We all know how those poor guys and gals are bashed by the public in which the bashing is orchestrated by the "traditional" publishing industry to discredit the competition. So, I thought to myself, "Gee, with all these self-published authors posting comments about their own books, why not buy one and see what it's really like?" I hit the jackpot with my purchase of La Plevitskaya.
In typical Russian literature style, it's long-- and what an epic it is. In all honesty, it could stand a professional proofread, though that doesn't distract from the literary impact of Hauptmann-Gurski's story. The tale really hangs together. The author exhibits a specical gift to draw you into the main character's perils so that you want to keep turning those pages to find out what will happen next to this dynamic woman, known as La Plevitskaya. Will Stalin and his goons ever capture her and add her name to millions murdered by Stalin? It's worth reading to find out!
So, if you want to curl up with a good book and spend hours reading an adventure that involves one woman's charmed life, I highly recommend buying this book.
