Editorial Reviews

"Chase blends some wonderfully comic scenes with several more serious issues. Chase's writing is so distinctive and her characters and dialogue so sharp, that she carries it off."

Anyone who has followed this blog understands that I am a fan of Elaine Raco Chase's writing - particularly her dialogue: there are few who write dialogue as well, that feels as natural and realistic. In Lady Be Bad she continues to produce dialogue that is both real and in some places, blindingly poignant.

In this story, Chase has mixed up the expectations for the reader: taking a story that starts with the heartbreak of love lost and focuses on Marlayna as she regroups and redirects her life, finding success although no answers in the life she built for herself after running from Atlanta after an unexpected divorce. Putting her best face forward, literally and figuratively, her modelling contract for a leading cosmetics company has her living comfortably if not entirely happily.

Invited to a weekend party to celebrate the cosmetic company owner's daughter's engagement was a `must appear' for Marlayna: even though the proposed son in law was her ex-husband, Noah.
Now Noah was easy to dislike. Granted his reasoning for leaving Marlayna and not providing an answer was misguided selfishness, but his utter dishonesty towards his new, young and very immature fiancé was horrible. And even though his feelings for Marlayna are wholly apparent in word and description, any man who would remain silent as his fiancé explains that his "liking me is enough, I can live with that, I know you don't love me", is despicable.

Both Noah and Marlayna are beautifully portrayed, with decided development and growth for both as they face their past, their feelings and they hope for a future. The sexual tension and chemistry is apparent, even after all the years apart.

I must admit that I hated Noah for the first part of the book. What he did.......was beyond rotten and I cried. Then I caught a "clue" that later turned into fact. I now love Noah and I loved him with Marlayna. Funny, sexy read and now I am spending all my money on more books by this author.

A lot of readers complain that romance novels are all alike--that they follow a formula. Lady Be Bad is not a formula book so it should appeal to readers who want a different kind of romance.

Yes, it's got the typical Elaine Raco Chase heroine. Marlayna is beautiful, smart, and has a heart of gold. She knows what she wants, and what she wants is the one man she can't have. Or can she?

Noah Drake is definitely not your usual romance novel hero. No rose-colored glasses obscure his outlook on life, and his physical imperfections are plainly visible for readers to see. He's not perfect, and that's kind of refreshing. He's a man who survived tragedy.

Does that mean he isn't sexy and virile? Heck, no! He's hot for Marlayna, and he's not shy about showing it and acting on it.

Lady Be Bad is a heartwarming story with enough sensuality to please romance readers who like it spicy. With a man and a woman meant for each other, funny well-drawn secondary characters, and evocatively described settings, Ms. Chase's fans will be delighted that she has brought another of her bestselling print novels to ebooks.

I loved this book, but I didn't realize I was going to need tissues. There were some fun, lighthearted, and steamy moments, but there were also some more serious issues. The characters had a lot to overcome. My heart was breaking. I do love a good second chance story, though. There are some great secondary characters that added to the story as well. And the narrator for the audio was fantastic.

23-year-old Marlayna O'Brian has the perfect life, married to Noah Drake, the perfect man. All that changes in an instant. A terrible accident sends Noah to the hospital and, from that moment on, nothing in Marlayna's world will ever be the same. She is denied access to her injured husband without explanation, unable to see or speak to him, and it will be six long years before she finally gets some answers.

Such a fantastic, sexy story! What I like most about Elaine Raco Chase's books is that they are not cookie-cutter. She has a unique voice that breathes fresh life into a genre that can sometimes be stale. There's emotion and humor and characters you care about. And the research always adds a sense of reality, placing her characters in a world you can believe in. I've read several of her books now, and I can honestly say each is a new adventure to look forward to.
