I tried an adapter that claimed to be for the 5100 from Ebay, and it didn't work. Then I found this one and it has the correct plug that is an exact match to the original adapter that came with the 5100.
If you're looking for an adapter for the Acer Aspire 5100, this is the one!!

If you have one of the laptops listed above, this is the adapter you want. It specs right out to the Lite-On original, including not least of all the plug. You don't want to have to fiddle around with the plug--just read the reviews for this one:

No. This is the sort of item you get when you need one. You want it to work and to be trouble free. This works and you don't have to fiddle with the plug. And it costs less too. What's not to like? UPDATE: Damn thing finally died today. Got over two and a half years service from it--a year's more use than what I got from the original BTW. I think I got my money's worth. To clarify one point in the earlier review: this item is as pictured, it's not a universal shown to look like a dedicated adapter.
