This review is from: LAPTOP AC ADAPTER POWER SUPPLY FOR LENOVO IBM THINKPAD 16V 4.5A A20 A21 X20 T... (Electronics)
I went through 2 IBM AC adapters for my Thinkpad T40. Both failed with the same problem: the wire close to the input port on my computer frayed from bending back and forth a lot over time. One downright shorted, nearly causing a fire, while the other needed the wire to be kept in a single position in order to get power. I ordered this, and so far it's working well. The construction looks much better than the IBM AC adapters, in that the wires are thicker and more durable.
I'll see if this AC adapter stands the test of time, but it seems very well constructed, so I believe that it'll last longer than my IBM adapters. Good product!

After having my Lenovo Thinkpad for about 3 years, the adapter was giving me problems. There was a problem with the way the adapter was connecting to the laptop (not to the outlet). My old AC Adapter still had a charge and everything, and worked fine, but I constantly had to move the wire around and jam it into my computer to make it turn my laptop on. When I bought this AC Adapter for my Lenovo, it fit perfectly, charged my laptop, stayed put, and even allowed me to move my laptop around while using it. Apparently the adapters IBM has made have some problems, and this "general" adapter is way better adapted. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x20

While I would normally give a product that does what it is supposed to high marks, this one lost stars for the following issues:
The outlet plug has 3 prongs. I know most devices have 3 these days instead of just 2 however this was bought to replace my IBM R51 laptop charger which only has 2 prongs. My beef with this is if they are going to clone a product, they could copy it precisely. My old apartment outlets don't all have 3 prongs. I'm forced to now run an extension cord to the other room where I have a 3 prong outlet. The black plastic sheath covering the wires that lead from the cable to the brick was frayed. It has only been 2 days of use and already the shielding is coming off. My old charger which I've been using for years is still flawless and I had only ordered this so I wouldn't have to carry my charger from home to work. For those that don't care about these issues and just want to know, YES, it chargers my battery. REVIEW UPDATE: It has been over 30 days now and I've been using it everyday. I have reduced the product rating to 1 star because the black rubber around the wire that leads into the adapter has completely seperated and leaves the 3 wires exposed. The brick itself runs really hot. I don't keep it on my carpet, it seems to be a fire hazard. While some black electrical tape could fix the insulation issue, really? My original IBM charger (which I still use at home), 7 years later is still in perfect condition. The problem that made me lower the rating to 1 star is the following: The charging status on my laptop will flicker now and then. I'm not sure if its because the brick is getting too hot or because the jack isn't making contact with my laptop. To note, the adapter jack is slightly smaller than my IBM jack and its not the perfect snug fit. I have since bought another replacement charger from another seller (see product: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MQ34ZE/ref=ox_ya_os_product ) and will review that one to see how it works after I get it
