From the Publisher

This basic guide to the clinical management of patients undergoing refractive laser surgery provides you with the information you need to provide the best care for patients before and after the surgery. The basics of the cornea and wound healing are discussed to provide a groundwork for deciding which patients will most benefit from laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK). Also covered is the pre-procedure selection and patient work-up, description of the surgery, and post-operative management, including the use of contact lenses after the procedure to further correct a patient's visual acuity, if needed. The number of laser refractive surgery procedures has risen dramatically each year. Since LASIK patients have fewer complications than PRK patients, it has replaced PRK as the surgery of choice. Optometrists are seeing increasing numbers of patients who have had LASIK surgery or are considering it. In order to best meet the needs of this growing segment of the population, practitioners need to have an understanding of the pre- and post-operative care plus a fundamental knowledge of the surgical procedure. LASIK: Clinical Co-Management is the ideal book for optometrists who wish to provide optimal care for their LASIK patients.

This review is from: LASIK: Clinical Co-Management (Paperback)
I used this while in optometry school to get a more detailed overview of LASIK/PRK than what was taught in lecture courses. It provides a nice summary overview about most of the major considerations involved in clinical decision making, but never really gets into down to the detail I was hoping for. I think most people who've had even light exposure to surgical comanagement of refractive procedures (LASIK and/or PRK) would find the book a little basic. It's well written, though, and provides a lot of good info, even if some of it is outdated. It would have benefitted tremendously from a few clinical case examples, especially in the chapters involving patient selection and post operative complications.
