About the Author

Dr. Stephen Dudley is widely recognized as one of the leading refractive surgeons in the Midwest and is the founder of LaserSight of Wisconsin, with laser centers in Milwaukee, Green Bay, Neenah and Oshkosh. He is a graduate of Purdue University, where he received a BS degree in physics and subsequently received his MD degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Following an internship at the Buffalo General/E.J. Meyer Hospitals in Buffalo, New York, Dr. Dudley served as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Air Force for two years. Dr. Dudley completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

As the first surgeon in Wisconsin to perform laser vision correction using the excimer laser, Dr. Dudley was one of seventeen principal investigators in the United States for the FDA clinical trials of the VISX laser. Because of his expertise, his clinical data was also used by the CRS study to gain FDA approval of LASIK for the VISX laser. Being a physician trainer for VISX, Dr. Dudley has trained dozens of other surgeons in the LASIK procedure. A pioneer in eye care, Dr. Dudley also introduced the first neodymium-YAG laser for the treatment of secondary cataracts to Wisconsin, conducted the initial clinical research on the first foldable intraocular lens, and was one of the first doctors in the state to perform "no needle, no stitch" cataract surgery.

Dr. Dudley has been featured both on television and in the press for his contributions to refractive and cataract surgery, both at home and abroad. He is regularly featured weeknights on MD-TV in their informative news program about LASIK. In addition, he publishes numerous articles in ophthalmic journals and presents his clinical data at numerous symposia in the United States and abroad.

Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Dudley is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the State Medical Society of Wisconsin, the American Medical Association, and he holds an appointment to the Volunteer Clinical Faculty of the University of Wisconsin Medical School.

Underscoring his confidence in laser vision correction, Dr. Dudley has performed LASIK on both his son and wife. Dr. Dudley himself had LASIK in 1998 and has been enjoying a glasses-free life style ever since. In his spare time, he actively participates in vintage and contemporary sports car racing in the United States and Europe.
