This out-of-print Western easily read as though I had picked off the shelf at Barnes & Noble last week. It was full of action and fun and entertained a host of promising characters. It read with fluid ease and was the perfect fix for my craving for a luscious Western tale.

Willow is the auburn-haired, blue-eyed schoolmarm who has traveled West in hopes of finding the home and family she's always wanted. Taking root in a small, Western town, she soon attracts the towns outcasts and forms a make-shift family with a heartwarming loyalty to one another. Housed on her small ranch is an ex-prostitute, the town drunk and several orphaned children of varying ages and backgrounds. Despite the happiness they've formed as a small unit, this make-do family finds itself in endless dangers as nature and man threatens their security.

Along comes Lobo - notorious gunslinger, a white Apache, a loner, a drifter and a cold-hearted murderer. When Lobo is hired to get rid of Willow and her gang he finds himself at odds with sudden inner turmoil to help the odd brood. Soon is he drawn in against his better judgment and finds himself smack dab in the middle of a ranch war protecting the oddest family known to the West and finding himself lost in the eccentric "mother" of it all... Willow.

This was a bittersweet and charming romantic tale. The love story at the center is exquisite and though seems to start abruptly, ends very well-formed. The side stories in the tale are just as charming, making you want to hear more about this little town and the people in it. You'll cheer for all the second chances presented in this novel and the hard-earned paths they take to get to the winning side.
