The best gitaen flamenco to come out of Spain in years, December 9, 1998

This review is from: L'Amour D'Un Jour (Audio CD)
If you like raw, unadulterated gipsy flamenco music, then this album is the one. In fact any Jose Reyes & Los Reyes or Manitas de Plata albums are a must. They really are pure flamenco from the struggles of the gipsies that had to leave Spain due to the facist takeover by Franco. When they settled in France, they took in the French riviera and coastal communities' cultures into their stride and mixed it with their flamenco origins. These people surely know how to party and their music is evident of the original recording quality displayed in this album. The songs are not mobil-fidelity stuff, but they sure are raw and beautiful. It almost sounds like these guys recorded their songs in a home studio and sent the tapes to TUDOR music for pressing. The voices of Jose are unmistakable and Canut's guitar work makes me wonder why he did not continue with this style into the more modern Gipsy Kings band? He surely can give Tonino a run for his money!
