5.0 out of 5 stars It's all here--the perfect So Cal Tourbook
I mean, who really wants to deal with the crowds at Disneyland, the stabbings at Magic Mountain, the overpriced chicken dinners at Knotts Berry Farm, or the fires at Univeral Studios? As the previous reviewer Orchito said, other reviewers appear to be friends because they are mentioned in the book. Was an xmas present, but I wouldn't have purchased it.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't bother-save your money and time, November 25, 2009
This review is from: LA's Graveside Companion: Where the V.I.P.s R.I.P. (Paperback)
Too much of nothing in this book--- that cannot be found on Find A Grave, no color pictures, people who have reviewed this book are also listed as resources to the book....one of my biggest disappointments. As a "graver" since 1995 there is nothing in this LA graveside book that I don't already know and alot of information was left out. For fun I suggest Morbid Curiosity by Alan Petrucelli, no pictures but a great read and/or Death Becomes Them by Alix Strauff or any book by Michael Largo.

Los Angeles is so full of interesting cemeteries that Steve Goldsteins book is essential for seeing the off the beaten path spots in L.A. that are not packed with rude tourists and high priced hype. He barely scratches the surface in writing extensively about where the movie stars and others are buried, and I for one am eagerly waiting for Volume II. A great present for that someone special also!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Topside report from the still living, December 14, 2011
This review is from: LA's Graveside Companion: Where the V.I.P.s R.I.P. (Paperback)
I've known author, Steve Goldstein, for several years. I've watched his literary craft mature. With this first book, he provides those of us with an interest in the departed--famous and not-so--a real reference book. Steve's photos are first rate as is the accompanying accounts and content. I look forward to Steve's next project.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun frolic through LA Boneyards, February 3, 2010
This review is from: LA's Graveside Companion: Where the V.I.P.s R.I.P. (Paperback)
I think this book is a lot of fun. Goldstein has put together a darn good guidebook, making it easy to get within 6 feet of some of the most famous people in history. The work that went into mapping things out - does not go unappreciated. I found it easy to read, and hands down loads better than most of books out there on the subject.

To an experienced grave hunter, there may not be many "new" discoveries in this book, but there are some surprises. Even if you can't get to Los Angeles - it would still be a fun book to cuddle up on the sofa with.

Obviously Steve has a lot of passion for the subject matter - that shines through. I enjoyed his take on the subject. This book makes a terrific addition to my collection.

A fine source of information about actors, actresses, and people within the movie industry (and others) that you may have missed. A few of the photos are a bit lacking, but over all, the book delivers.

Steve hit the nail on the head with this book. I've been to about 90% of these graves and learned even more from his book.
And thanks for my write up in the book Steve.

Goldstein is a wealth of knowledge if you ask him he does know where they are buried, or where the VIP, RIP !!!!!!

I ordered this book about a month or two ago. Its a very nice addition to the other books pertaining to celebrity grave sites. Steve explains things in a very down to earth friendly manner. The photos are nicely detailed in a black and white color format on high quality glossy paper. There are over 400 celebrities listed through out the book. Steve also mentions various things about their life and key movies they took part in. The book was very enjoyable to read.

This is a great book. I love books about cemeteries. There are several out about Los Angeles area cemeteries, but Steve created his own kind and I like it just as much as the others. I wouldn't want to be without it and it has a very special place on my bookshelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a Compass for Cemetery Fanatics!, May 7, 2009
This review is from: LA's Graveside Companion: Where the V.I.P.s R.I.P. (Paperback)
I have known Steve Goldstein, since 1971.
We met in Newton,Mass.; when a friend of a friend, brought him to my house; to audition, for rhythm guitar, for my high school rock band. I knew immediately he was the,man I had been looking for. We became friends, till this very day.
Please do not let this have any bearing on Steve's new book,
"LA's Graveside Companion: Where the V.I.P.s R.I.P."
I hated it!
Way back during the pre 9/11 innocence of 1988,
I visited Steve in Los Angeles, where I found his personal tour,
Of the where the V.I.P.S R.I.P.; the most fascinating part of my trip.
Steve's natural inquisitive nature; would usually force him to dig deeper,
going way beyond the actual facts of a situation, adding new life to it.
He knew the all the grave sites of the famous V.I.P.'s, plus all the little oddities that make him a natural author; on this subject.
My advice on this book is to buy it a.s.a.p., not only to
to read Steve Goldstein's incredible insightful version, of these monumental sights; but to stay on top of the never ending grave business of Hollywood's graves!
