5.0 out of 5 stars My fave CD
This has been my fave CD for nearly a year now; I bought it immediately after the first time I saw the movie when it was released in France. I use it as a chill-out CD, a work-out CD, and a put-a-smile-on-my-face CD.

The CD mimics the songs in the movie, so there are no real surprises - if you liked the soundtrack while watching the film. then you're all set up to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Techno Song
Most of the songs on this CD are spanish, alot of salsa. And there is the occational classical. However, I wanted to find the techno song that is in the movie right after they leave the discoteque when everyone is drunk. That electronic song is great but I cant find it anywhere. Does anyone know what its called? (...)
Let me know please.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bring some European Summer into your Living Room, September 1, 2003

You have seen the movie? Then you know why you are buying the CD and there is nothing more to tell.

You have not seen the movie? Then this CD is a great sampler of music that is played in Europe. It's quite diverse from a classical tune, to Ali Farka, to spanish Rap, to Euro disco music.

If you are Europe inclined this is a fun CD to have around. I play it by myself or when I have friends over. They always ask: Who is this? As there are some really catchy tunes in it.

And oh yes, go and see the movie, it is really cool. Nothing to brainy but just real fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this SNDTrack and GO SEE THE MOVIE!, August 26, 2003

After just having spent 4 months in Nice, France on study abroad, my sentiments for this type of movie are quite strong. this was an excellent movie that just made me want to turn around and go spend more time abroad. This soundtrack is wonderful, and if you listen to it after watching the movie, it can evoke the same feelings in you because the music was chosen to match the scenes very well. It ranges from mellow background music, pefect for the background of a nice dinner, to GREAT salsa and cumbia music that you will be unable to keep your feet from tapping and head nodding to. I highly recommend this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars In complement to the movie, February 16, 2004
This review is from: L'Auberge Espagnole (Audio CD)
I went to see "L'Auberge..." and I loved it so much I wanted to repeat it. Pity, it wasn't been played anymore in the cinema. I had to remember how it was, and good moments were when Radiohead's No Surprises was playing in the minute of crisis. Daft Punk had a chance to sound with Aerodinamic when there was the sort of action. The music that was specially made for the film... well, I don't have complaints. You could say it's a bit etnical, and joyful. In a general look it's a good mix of songs, moods, sensations, etc. If you buy it you can use for when you invite people over your house, to have fun, whilst you do the cleaning, or if you're alone/sad/bored. If you're not that sure, I recommend you to watch the movie to know the songs and to be part of itself. Then you'll know what to do.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Eclectic Mix, May 20, 2004

I can't say that I immediately rushed out to buy this album after watching the movie. I don't think the soundtrack is one of the best I've ever heard, and I have to admit that I was a tad disappointed that there wasn't more French music involved. Although, as the movie was set in Spain, it's understandable.

However, once I bought this album, it quickly grew on me, and has since become one of my favorites. It's a great mix of songs for just about any activity; I especially like it for my road trips. I encourage everyone to buy this album, as it's an "auberge espagnole" in its own right.

The film takes me back to when I studied in Spain as an undergraduate student. The CD complemements the film beautifully. Overall there is a good balance in the songs chosen for the soundtrack. I enjoy RadioHead and DaftPunk. Mala Rodriguez surprised me. I like how she flows and will be looking for more of her music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved the movie, love the music, December 12, 2003

My only complaint about the cd is that No Woman No Cry isn't on it as well as the other great songs that made the movie even more fun to watch. The music alone is entertaining. Most of the songs are great party music, yet some of them are sexy, corresponding with the scenes in the movie in which they were used. Leaving out only one of the songs from the film, one which is easily acquirable anyway, I think they did a great job of compiling the soundtrack to L'auberge Espagnole.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good music to remind you of the film, August 2, 2003
This review is from: L'Auberge Espagnole (Audio CD)
"L'Auberge Espagnole" - the movie - is in No Man's Land right now...gone from the theaters, not yet released or even announced in VHS/DVD. So much so that even the most diligent of amazon.com searches - under any of its multitudinous release names (Spanish Hotel, Euro Pudding, Spanish Apartment, Pot Luck, Casa de Locos, etc.) - fails to land even a sniff.

So, while waiting for the home release of the film, the soundtrack is the next best thing. The movie itself depicts the fear of setting off to a foreign country to study - not knowing the language, the culture, the people. Then, the slow process of finding a base, tentative stabs at making friends, and then - true bonding and an indelible experience.

The music helps you capture that feeling. The film calls for a compilation that is global in nature, since the essence of the film deals with the potential of Europe as a cohesive whole. The soundtrack delivers a mix that is multi-cultural, vibrant, youthful. It is at times Spanish, Catalan, English, French...with a dollop of Arabic/African sensibility thrown in, a nod to the increasing influence those locales have on anything that's hip in Spain.

In short, a great CD to have in your changer.
