I was first introduced to this movie about 5 years ago, while I was living in France. Since I returned to the States, I have been on a constant lookout for its release! Finally, it has arrived! This is a great film. Lots of laughs. Lots of great stars! Must add that the strutting scene on the beach is my favorite. This is a great film for Jacques Brel fans or people who enjoy a good laugh.

I remember seeing this moving on french TV in 1978 when I lived in France. I saw the movie with my mother and aunt. We laughed so hard, we were in stiches. The movie is funny and wittie and captures you attention from start to finish. Seeing again on DVD was a real joy (it was doubly funny seeing that the South American revolitionary leader looking like one of my best friends here in town). Lelouch has succeeded to bring stars like Brel, Hallyday, and Ventura together. The cast plays well together. I loved the scene when they bring all kinds of idioligists to explain what they think matters in life.

I think this movie is a Lelouch classic!

Great movie with many great actors. Will never get tired of watching this satire of human love of power and/or money.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's about time!, August 30, 2003
This review is from: L'Aventure C'est L'Aventure (DVD)
This DVD has been available in Europe for quite some time. Nice transfer. Good, clean family fun (although one scene does depict a convention of prostitutes). Keep your eyes peeled for "L'emmerdeur," released as "A Pain in the Ass" on VHS in the US. It's an even better showcase of Jacques Brel and Lino Ventura. I don't think it's on DVD even in Europe, though.

Probably one of the funniest films ever made!
I'm sure not many people today will agree or have even seen this film, to understand what I mean.
Then again, that's always a given. Claude Lelouch gives us one of the most insighful and intelligent treatise (in film)on the political and financial situation of our world today. This film was released in 1972, and it's message is more telling than ever. Claude Lelouch deserves to be honored as one of the greatest filmakers of all time (he's always been one of my favorites, along with his contemporaries like; Philippe DeBroca, Claude Chabrol, Georges Lautner, Ives Robert, Claude Satet, Jacque Deray, Jose Giovanni, Jean Pierre Melville, Jean Eustache, etc., etc,), The French films from the 50's, 60's, and 70's are among some of the best ever made! How can you go wrong with Lino Ventura, Jacques Brel, Charles Denner, Aldo Maccione, Charles Gerard and Johnny Hallyday!
Claude Lelouch's cinematic skills are undeniable and only a discerning few will revel in it's artistic integrity.
His camera work,(optical zoom in and out),color and lighting, framing, mise en scene, are some of the best ever put on film and 'L'aventure, c'est l'aventure' is no exception. Without giving away any of the zany plot of the story, I will just say it's original and a comedy masterpiece.
This review is for the 2003 DVD Image Entertainment release, 122 Mins. in French with English subtitles, which I purchased through Amazon for a very reasonable price in 2005! I forgot to add, Francis Lai's great music, as always!

Merci Bien,
Carlos Romero.

P.S.

I originally saw this masterpiece in 1983 at the Carnegie Hall Cinema during a great French Film Festival that ran for several weeks, unfortunately the print at the time was an English only dubbed version, c'est domage!

This movie is rather silly. However, it stars several French superstars such as Leno Ventura and Jacques Brell. (I think Brell's really Belgian.) It also has cameos from other stars such as Johnny Holliday. It concerns a group of rather stupid criminals who get involved in all sorts of illegal activities from kidnapping, hijacking, revolution, and bank robbing. They're bumbling criminals, so the movie takes nothing seriously, not even the French criminal justice system, nor religion.

I recommend this film to everyone who like humor. I watched them first time when I was 17. Now 37 years after, it is still fresh.
