5.0 out of 5 stars Better than some I've bought from Home Depot.
Basically this is a good toilet seat for the price. Solid oak. I see Amazon has raised the price slightly. Well this seat is still better than the $40 one I purchased at Home Depot. This one screws securely and does not "wobble" and slide. Also it's heavy and seems like it will not split like other wood seats.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
The seat looks cheap, the unit doesn't sit straight (not by a little but a lot - the wood overhangs by 1/2" on one side and the porcelain shows 1/2" on the other) - the brass cross head screws have no cover - lousy made in China quality control.

Started falling apart after 6 months, the back separating from the hinges. Bought another one and the wood on the seat part started separating.

The seat arrived promptly and in good condition. It is much better quality than the oak seats you can buy at the big box stores. One reviewer wrote that it had a very thick layer of plastic coating over the wood. Although mine has a protective finish, which I like, it is not overly thick at all. Mine even has one slightly rough spot. It has a light oak finish which matched my bathroom very well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality but doesn't seem like real oak, February 28, 2010
This review is from: LDR 050 1700 Round Wood Toilet Seat with Polished Brass Finish Hinges, Oak (Tools & Home Improvement)
Bought two of these to replace old oak seats with corroded hinges. The first thing I noticed is that the "cross-grain" version is lighter in weight, like the wood is less dense. Also, it has a cold, plastic feel vs. the older oak seats. In spite of that, it seems like a good seat. I like the laquered hinges which hopefully will help to prevent corrosion.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Wood not sawdust glued together., March 25, 2011

This review is from: LDR 050 1700 Round Wood Toilet Seat with Polished Brass Finish Hinges, Oak (Tools & Home Improvement)
It is hard to find an actual seat made from actual wood boards instead of what I call sawdust/woodchips glued together. This seat is made from solid wood boards.

Pros:
Solid Wood construction
Tongue and grooved joints

Cons:
MADE IN CHINA
Pads where seat meets bowl not well placed
Brass hardware does not look all that strong(time will tell)

I purchased the new toilet seat before the holidays. I was impressed with the look and construction and happy that there were five bumpers rather than the normal two or three. I really thought this toilet seat would last for a while. Well it made it three weeks before one of the bumpers split. Now one lists a little to the left when occupying the throne.

I made a mistake in exchanging the defective item for another one. The same bumper failed again, but it was too late to return. I will never purchase a toilet seat made by this manufacturer again. Now I am doubly disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Inferior Product, October 4, 2010

This review is from: LDR 050 1700 Round Wood Toilet Seat with Polished Brass Finish Hinges, Oak (Tools & Home Improvement)
This toilet seat made it less than 3 months before a glue joint opened up on the front. Of course it waited until the window for returns had closed. It did this during the summer, so dry heat environment could not be the cause, and I can only conclude that the Chinese manufacturer used incompletely cured wood. I would not recommend this product.
