This is a wonderful tutorial and overview for the beginning bookbinder (like me). Accomplished binders might get a different approach to some aspects. Mr. Goodwin's wit and charm leads the viewer through every step, from sewing on cords to gold tooling. Because of the scope of what is covered there are some details that are not fully developed. Don't forget, it's only about 1.5 hours long, not a two-year apprenticeship! Beginners should buy this and watch it several times. I think experienced bookbinders could thoroughly enjoy this and get some tips, but would be better served by renting/viewing it on Amazon's "Video On Demand" service (it's cheaper that way). Janette Heffernan does the solid video work and knows when to zoom in for a close-up. I enjoyed their funny banter. She might want to consider using a tripod for stability. Fine instructional video overall!

I bought this -- the leatherbound book dvd -- along with the atlas restoration dvd, and the accountant book series, and found them to be somewhat similar, but all very enjoyable.

The leatherbound dvd, this one, is probably the most complete of the three I have mentioned -- the most complete, start-to-finish interest to a new bookbinder.

The dvd doesn't explain how to make your own folios but that is easily learned off the net (it's just how many sections of paper you use) and folios are the least of your concerns when you make books.

I loved this leatherbound book dvd. He has been making books for 60+ years and I was glad to see his thumb get as full of glues mine does when I make books by hand! He's a great guy with a very relaxed, unstresful teaching style. A very nice man, and as a professional bookbinder myself it was an honor to watch a master work and share the mysterious world of bookbinding in DVD format.

All the best to you, Peter, and thank you very much for your series! I can't wait to own them all.

I have watched at least part of all of Mr. Goodwin's dvd's. This is the best yet. The information is clearly presented and the demonstrations are very helpful. You need to have a book to cover in leather and his explanation of how to prepare a text block is clear and helpful. I would highly recommend this dvd.
