Product Description

[Newer model available with 6 LEDs: Go to BNR LED 6-3m, ASIN: B00UE3WKDI] Worn around the neck, with a patented flip-up design, adjustable strap and reflector, this lightweight, hands-free LED light with 3 bright LEDs in row delivers extra light anywhere at home or when traveling. For those with normal vision, the three accessory 4x5 inch Acrylic Fresnel (flat) magnifier lenses (2X, 4X, and 6X) make this light useful for quilting, knitting and all needlework, crafts, hobby work and other tasks where, for short periods, an enlarged view with extra light is helpful. For example, fixing a dropped stitch when knitting. The Fresnel design lenses are NOT intended as a low-vision aid nor to be used for extended durations. Please note this is a LIGHT with accessory plastic lenses and does not substitute for those primarily needing or wanting magnification. The lenses attach to the Beam n Read Hands-Free Light with a clip-on hinge so both light and lens are hands free. They can be placed in vertical or horizontal position. The Beam n Read Hands-Free Light allows you to read everything: hardcover books & paperbacks PLUS patterns, instruction sheets, loose papers, and other material that can't support a clip-on light. Use it anywhere. An essential light for a power outage. CraftCritique.com describes the BNR as, "An item you weren't sure you needed quickly becomes indispensible...Superior to book lights or headlamps." The BNR LED 103M comes with 3 energy saving LEDs. 4 Alkaline AA batteries (not included) last for 100 hours. The Beam n Read shines a steady light in front allowing you to turn your head or shift your hobby work or book without disrupting your light. The Beam n Read family of Lights includes: BNR LED 6-3m with 6 LEDs and 3 lenses; BNR LED 3F with 3 LEDs and 2 snap-on filters; BNR LED 6-3F with 6 LEDs and 2 snap-on filters; BNR USB/AC Power Kit. Other Beam n Read products include Keyboard Stickers and High Visibility Playing Cards.

I bought this to use for needlepointing a canvas with small holes. The
magnifiers work well and are a good variety of magnification. But . . .when I set it over the spot i'm working on, it's difficult to keep it exactly where I need it. It slips around. The light on the item is execellent, but again, it does not stay where I
need it. However, by adjusting the strap or adding some padding, I've been able to make it work as best as possible - and it is definatly the best I've seen for magnification and light. It has 3 lenses and goes up to 6X.
I would like to see this same product adjsted so that it could be attached to a headband that would give it better spotting.

This is a fantastic light! I like the fact it sits around the neck, rather than having to be clamped to a book. This makes it great for reading or, in my case, knitting.

The light itself has just the perfect amount of brightness - enough to see, but not too glaring, and it has 3 LED bulbs, so the light shines on a bigger area than other lights I've tried.

The magnifiers make it possible for me to read, or knit, without having to wear my reading glasses. I travel a lot, and this is a lifesaver planes. (The overhead light never seems to be quite enough, or is never angled in the right place.)

I mainly wanted this for reading, but the area that you can see with the light and through the magnifier is limited. You can also see little lines in the magnifier which are annoying. For something like knitting or sewing it is probably fine. It might help if it had six lights like one of the other models.

The light works fine but the magnifiers are horrible. They are plastic and have wavy lines that distort what you are viewing.
I gave it one star for the light.

bought this item to use when I cross stitch. Not near enough light and not near enough magnification for working with 28 or 32 ct. fabrics. Not that I am 'blind' I don't need glasses - just a little help when working with detailed stitching. I sent it back.

Purchased for 92 year old to use when doing close hand work. Works very well. Reason I gave 4 and not 5, she can't use it for reading. Works great for the purpose it was purchased. Price was good, also.

The lines in the plastic made it hard to read anything without eye strain, and that was what I was trying to avoid. I returned the product.

Okay, even though this is something that someone much older than me usually wears, my eyes are terrible...and I love to do needlework.

The pros:

It's portable. It doesn't need to plug into the wall, although it does have a port for an AC/DC adapter that you can buy separately. The instructions tell you what kind to get. Otherwise, it takes 4 AA batteries.

The neck strap is adjustable and made from elastic. It's comfortable to wear.

It folds up nicely if you need to pack it for traveling. Doesn't take up much space.

Comes with 3 different magnifying lenses, each in their own protective pouch.

The cons:

One HUGE con, actually...

The magnifying lenses have thin wavy lines across them. I have no idea why, but I can SEE them as I'm looking through the magnifier and they mess with my eyes. I'm trying to focus on my needlework and my eyes keep trying to focus on the lines in the lens. I'm extremely disappointed about this, since I believe the Beam N Read is the only product like this.

I'm going to try and get used to it, but it would be much much better if they weren't there at all. I see no reason to have them there (they're textured like something that's meant for keeping fingerprints off...but that's what window cleaner is for).
