I am able to make significant progress on a needlepoint picture because this light is as good as daylight in working on my project. Before I purchased this light, I had to lay my picture aside when the sun went down.

I love this booklight! Whenever my husband and I drive someplace, I bring my book along and he always complains about the light. But this booklight shines directly on the pages. It hangs around your neck so you don't have to keep adjusting it like you do with a clipon. It's also great if you like to read in bed.

I am an avid knitter (at least 1 hour every day) and I consider my Beam N Read LED 6 as important as the knitting needles themselves. I keep one in my knitting bag and use it whenever and wherever I knit. Even if I am next to a good table lamp, my Beam N Read gives me better and stronger light directly on my work. Visualize a group of knitters or quilters gathered to chat and work--with the Beam N Read each person can have her own good, strong light focused on her work without regard to where table or floor lamps may be. I bought this product mainly for the hands-free magnifier so I could start cross-stitching again. The neck strap was too short, I could not keep it positioned where I wanted it on my chest, so the light shone more into my chest than down onto my stitching, and the magnifier actually made it harder for me to see my work.

I was contacted by email by the VP of the company, who asked me to edit my original review (which I have done in the paragraph above) because he thought it was unfair and suggested that I have vision problems. For the record, I have NORMAL VISION. In fact, maybe my vision is too good for this product. After years of being 20/15 or better, my vision is now a "mere" 20/20. Perhaps I require less magnification than this product offers.

I will not dispute that for many, this is a great product, but for me, it was not. Is this not the whole reason that amazon allows us to review products?? How else will other 5'10" women with good vision know that this may not work for them?

I'm using this with NiMH batteries to read in bed. The light hangs on your neck and sits on your chest and overall it works well.

My criticisms are 1: it's a bit on the heavy side--with today's LEDs it should work with AAA batteries. 2: I wish the light could pivot upward more. 3: It comes with a yellow filter meant to soften the bluish LED light and I wish the filter would be a little whiter to allow more light to pass through.

I purchased the Beam N Read for an elderly friend that will be 90 in October! I was at her house one day and she was talking to someone else about getting batteries for her flashlight in case the power should go out. She now walks with a walker and I thought how akward for her to balance a flashlight and her walker in the dark. So I found this little guy and sent it to her. She just loves it! It fits right into the pouch of her walker and all she has to do when she needs more light is to put it around her neck and it will "light her way!" Her hands are free to navigate the walker which makes her treks around the house safer.

I've been experimenting with book lights for years. All have had faults, mostly weak illumination. The Beam N Read is the best light I've ever owned. It's very bright and spreads illumination over the entire page, whether you're reading a paperback book or a tabloid newspaper. Highly recommended.

I purchased the Kindle DX ebook reader and found that clip-on book lights do not work with it because the frame edge is too small causing the clip to obscure part of the screen display. This light offers an alternative because it hangs around the neck.

If you are a knitter, embroiderer, hand quilter, etc. then this light will really work for you. I love it for when I am working in an area that is not well lighted, or especially as a passenger in the car. I get a lot of knitting done in the car, and I couldn't do it without this light. I used to use the previous model with the old type light bulbs. This version is so much better, much brighter, wider lit up area, bulbs last indefinitely. It's comfortable to wear and the light is directed just where you need it. I can't do without it.

I have used Beam N Reads for years. I started using the Beam N Read to check on my infant children, change diapers, check on a feeding tube, etc. without needing to turn on the overhead light. When the other children were sleeping I didn't want to wake them. The kids are older now but one recent night after they were in bed, I used a Beam N Read with the magnifier to deal with an eye problem one of the children had. During the occasional blackout, I can walk around the house with both hands free. I've used it when looking for papers in storage boxes in the unfinished storage space under the house - especially in spaces the overhead light doesn't reach. It's been very useful.
