At first I had no idea what I would really use the red light for as we have an in car GPS and hardly use paper maps anymore. I had bought this unit mainly for the white reading light because one marketplace vendor had a really good price on it. It turns out that this light is also the perfect bedtime reading light and nightlight.

Pros:
1) There are 2 LEDs in each lighthead. So there is a choice of desired brightness. Pushing the button turns 2 LEDs on, then another push reduces it to one, and finally another push turns it off.
2) Having both red and white LEDs also enables how much redness/whiteness you like for reading.
3) The red LED does not wake the SO up during middle-of-the-night potty breaks and I find it easier to fall back to sleep when using the red light.
4) Bright and uniform light due to the number of LEDs and the optical lense. No shadows or hotspots.

Cons:
1) 2 heads make this lamp top heavy in certain positions and there needs to be some sort of hard support such as a clipboard to support its weight.
2) Without the weight of batteries (i.e. using the accessory adapter that is available separately) you'll need the accessory stand (also available separately) to keep this light in an upright position on a desk or nightstand.

I am liking this lamp more and more and plan to get a few more for the other side of the bed and for the guestroom.
