Product Description

This panel has no ballasts to burn out like other plant lights. It does not run hot, just warm. You will not experience unsightly brown burned leaves when they accidentally touch the LEDs. This is common with most other lights that get very hot. This more controlled running temperature reduces the need to water so often and keeps rooms with plants from getting uncomfortably hot in the summer months requiring additional air conditioning. Extreme energy efficiency permits this new LED panel to pay for itself many times over each year in electricity savings. It saves 50% to 90% in energy consumption compared to incandescent bulbs or fluorescent tubes. Wide angle projection insures uniform leaf coverage. Scientifically calculated even blending of red and blue LEDs eliminates the time consuming task of repositioning separate colored lights back and forth trying to achieve uniform exposure. 14 to 16 hours per day is all that is necessary for maximum plant health with this wave blended lighting system. This allows distances 6-Inch and less between the LEDs and the plants accelerating photosynthesis. Red and blue wavelengths are for growing and flowering of plants. The typical white plant lights that are very hot is unnecessary and just consume excessive electricity. The purity of the LED generated light lengthens flowering periods. These LEDs turn on instantly and can be turned on by hand each day or work well with all standard lamp timers. Color: Red + Blue = Purple looking to the eyes Working Voltage: 12V or 110V-220V Power: 13.8 Watts Dimensions: 12 inches (30.5cm) square Thickness: Low profile 1.25-Inch Power cord length: 48 inches Recommended coverage: one panel per 18 inches square LED life: Approx. 15 years used all year long. (60 years for spring starting of seedlings)

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Sweet & Really Cheap!, November 24, 2009

This review is from: LED Wholesalers 2501MX Blue/Red 225 LED 13.8 Watt Square Grow Light Panel 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
These first generation LED panels are pretty sweet and really cheap as LED grow light technology goes. Though only 14 watts and in the Bi-Band (blue and Red), these LED panels are great in concept, but no longer state of the art. What you really want are the Quad-band 45 watt 3rd generation LED panels (or bigger) which are just now hitting the market. It would take three of these bi-band panels to equal the power of one 45 watt Quad-band and still be deficient in bandwidth. However, the price can't be beat for what you get, and I think we'll see the price drop even further as the 3rd generation Quad-band technology becomes more common place. Considering the LED panels are only 14 watts and generate only 400 lumens, they're really not powerful enough to support the energy needed for the flowering process but if used in tandem with multiple LED panels, or as support lighting for another lighting source, they can deliver the power you need. That said they are LED lights and will last for a really long time. I use two of these panels in conjunction with several compact florescent lights and they're perfect for my needs. However, if you want this panel to be a primary light source, you'll be a little disappointed. You'll want a high wattage 3rd generation panel in that scenario, but the price tag will be nearly triple the cost and quickly go up from there. Knowing all I did when I bought my two LED light panels, I'm completely satisfied with my purchase. They're everything I expected them to be. Educate yourself before investing, you'll be glad you did.

I've used this light for a while now and I'd like to clear the air about some misconceptions and exaggerative advertising.
This is not a BAD light, but unfortunately it is not as good as seller's would like you to believe. The light output and color spectrum simply are not strong enough nor wide enough for this to be the only light on your plant. What is fortunate is that you can cheaply make up for the missing spectrum by adding a couple CFL lights to your room, and you can make up for the strength by adding another LED (I recommend a quality 45w LED panel), in addition to some good reflectors such as white walls or mylar. This will not do the same as a quality 90w LED UFO (and the only ones I'd buy are around $300), but then again it costs roughly half the price. You will not find an LED light company that does not exaggerate it's light's capabilities.

Another alternative to this set up is to get a 250w HPS (though 400w is the standard). But you will save a lot of money on electricity and operate much cooler with LEDs.

So in summary: This is an decent auxiliary light, but cannot grow plants on it's own like some would like you to believe.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hydroponic Lamp 225 LED Grow light Panel Red Blue 110 V, 2501MX, December 16, 2010
This review is from: LED Wholesalers 2501MX Blue/Red 225 LED 13.8 Watt Square Grow Light Panel 110 Volt (Lawn & Patio)
Several reviewers have said this product is worthless. I will say the same. The LEDs
will burn out quickly making the unit worthless. It uses a simple capacitor/rectifier diode supply with an output of about 170 v.d.c. That means series diode connections so when a diode goes, all go like the old Christmas tree light strings. Finding a bad diode is time consuming and not worth it because another will go soon.

Look at some high quality UV lamp sources instead.
