This review is from: LED Wholesalers GYO2002 4-Piece 400 Watt Hydroponic Reflector Grow Light Set (Lawn & Patio)
The product itself seems to be working extremely well, ridiculously bright
I started to use a computer fan on the capacitor since it seemed to run fairly hot and the fan keeps it at a cool comfortable temp. SO, i started using the light right out of the box and had no problems. Then, after a bit i started to smell burning plastic but was unable to determine where it was coming from. After doing some searching online for similar accounts i found the problem... The reflector that comes in the package has a thin blue plastic sheet that is supposed to be removed before use (was to protect it during shipping). However, nowhere in the box was any notice of such a thing or as i can recall any instructions whatsoever. So essentially the smell was indeed from burning plastic and unfortunately some was melted solid to the reflector and won't come off. But already the smell is much much less and I have less to worry about the fire hazard that was present. Overall Great product, does exactly what it is supposed to and my plants are growing fantastically Capacitor runs hot so adding a small quiet fan is nice to cool its heatsink REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER on the reflector, less you want to do some serious damage via fire or destroyed bulb.

Plants Love it!,

This product does work very well for growing medicinal herbs. My plants are growing very rapidly, as much as an inch a day on a 12 inch plant. The heat output is manageable: I have a 10" box fan pointed at the ballast that also circulates air in the grow room so the light stays cool, too. The design is no frills utilitarian, with long long power cords. The manufacturer also sells replacement bulbs for under $30 each. I believe this unit is an excellent value, and I plan to buy another one so that I can have one in vegetative mode (MH bulb)and another in bloom mode (HPS bulb) to maintain constant production. I highly recommend this product.
Update: I did buy the second unit and right now I have both using HPS bulbs finishing out my medicinal grow in soil. I sampled the product and give the results two thumbs up! Tiny clones to finished medicine in 90 days. With 2 400 watt bulbs and the two ballasts they do produce heat (all HPS and MH do). If you want to use these in a grow tent, you need to match the size (or number of lights) to the tent size and tent manufacturer's recommendations for the type of lights and the power/heat. Don't blame the light. Since a tent is confinement of space you will need positive ventilation. There is a very good reason why tents come with multiple vents for fans.

This review is from: LED Wholesalers GYO2002 4-Piece 400 Watt Hydroponic Reflector Grow Light Set (Lawn & Patio)
Okay so this is my first Amazon review, but it definitely won't be my last.
Let's start with the cons: The reflector on this light is awfully cheap and doesn't contain any of the heat. Using the MH bulb it will stay cooler but the HPS will get hot and heat whatever area this light is in. It also does not come with a tempered glass piece to cover the bulb. This means heat is directly pushed downward and can burn your plants. Adding a piece of glass would fix this, however there is no convenient way to do so. More expensive reflectors also have 6" holes on each side so you can easily fan the hot air directly through the fixture and away from the plants. Yes the instructions are vague but I'm sure you'll be able to figure them out. It also doesn't mention removing the blue strip of tape, which will eventually burn and can destroy the bulb/fixture. The ballast gets hot. While most ballasts do get toasty this one almost gets too hot to touch at times. Make sure it's in a well ventilated area away from the light or else it's gonna get realllll hot. ---Most important: the plugins for the ballast on my strip had problems. While everything plugged in fine, sometimes the grounds would disconnect and the light would turn off. We would have to jiggle it back but even after it turned on it would usually shut off again.--- Thus, I returned this item. Okay, how about some pros: Very cheap kit. The replacement system I bought (though totally worth it) cost $300. Switchable lights. Switching between bulbs was a breeze and this definitely made things easier on my end. Having both bulbs was nice too (they were certainly bright), however they were cheaper bulbs too and likely will lose intensity (though older bulbs stay bright, they often lose intensity and change color spectrum). It works! If you're looking for a cheap lighting option and you have an area with good ventilation or lots of room, this light will certainly help. My advice: weigh all your options before making any decisions, and don't deal with a set if it has pluging issues like mine did!
