Book Description

Having been drawn to the wild for a number of years, young Luke McKinney is forced to leave 1839 St.Louis for the North Country even sooner than he expected to go. At seventeen, along with a female companion and an elderly father figure, he is literally running for his life.

With the Law pursuing him and the wilderness unforgiving, he finds himself caught up in a survival system that has nothing to do with civilization or laws.

Then the unthinkable happens, the only love of his life is taken from him. It is during the pursuit of her captors that Luke finds a strength and determination that will shape his moral existence for the remainder of his life.

This is the first book of a trilogy that spans the lives of Luke McKinney and Breanne Bruyere, their undying love, through hell and high water, for over fifty years.

Daring, thrilling, romantic, historic. What else is there? 'Unforgetable!'

5.0 out of 5 stars Legend of the Dawn August 28, 2012
By DCF
Format:Kindle Edition
Another thrill ride from a new author! This is the second book by JR Wright and the first of a trilogy that you won't be able to put down. With break neck speed you'll love the characters and wish the trilogy was already available. I can't wait until the second book is available so I can see what happens next! I was so immediately captured by this author that I read both of his books in successive nights. You won't be disappointed!

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair frontier story. September 28, 2012
By Les
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well written frontier story. Word flow was smooth and word selection was natural. This first installment involves bad guys, a frontier trek and Indians woven together with a tale of love found, forced separation and search for reunion. It has lots of action, but drags in places. All in all, an average read in my opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Average June 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I found this book average. Nothing spectacular, but not terrible. Couldn't figure out why I was one of the few who wasn't raving about it, but after reading it, I checked the other reviews and found a number of suspicious five star ones.

I rate a book on several things, one of which is historical accuracy, which shouldn't even be an issue nowadays. This one had me scratching my head about the Mormon missionary. I wasn't aware, even during that time, that they traveled alone and the part about their Bible saying something about the asses is bogus. Although not a Mormon, I've done enough research to know that just isn't true. The book is fiction, but if an author includes inaccuracies such as this, the story is called into question for me.

There seemed to be a lot of action packed into it after the first 30% or so but it still dragged in several places. The biggest problem I had was although it's the first of a trilogy, it leaves you forced to buy subsequent books to see what happens to the characters. Trilogy means each is complete in itself, but part of a group of three. This was not the case here.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A GREAT BOOK!!! July 28, 2012
By RERIC
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the previous book published on Kindle by this author and found this one equally as wonderful. It captured me near immediately and hasn't let go yet even though I finished it days ago. The flowed great and followed the era well. Great read. If your into historicals you can't go wrong. I'm giving it five stars because that's what it deserves. I have only one thing to say to Mr. Wright: Keep them coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars Legend of the Dawn April 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first of a series that deal with two young people who have it rough and go to the wilderness to start their life together. Shortly after they are married, the young lady is stolen by Indians. Her young husband tries so hard to find her, but to no avail. He is told she is dead and they show him a body burned beyond recognition wearing her boots. She is really set free by the Indian chief, and a friend takes her back to civilization, where she is told her husband is dead. After making a search and not finding him she goes back east. This is a great pioneer story. It is very addictive. Don't miss it !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing read of survival and romance! November 26, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Great book that tells of frontier life that is harsh and unforgiving. Follow Luke McKinney as he heads to the wilderness and tries to survive. this is also a tale of an unforgettable love story and the reader is swept up in the saga. I can't wait to get lost in the rest of the books. The author did a great job making the reader feel like they had gone back in time. This is an amazing adventure that readers don't want to miss.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining and factually accurate! May 2, 2013

This Was an excellent series of books. It was hard to put down. As I would finish one book, I could not wait to start the next. The factual events that were included were accurate to time and place as well as to the actual participants in many. I loved the way it was written to show the plight of the american indian. So many books are written to imply they were nothing but vicious savages, when in fact they were merely trying to live their lives as they always had. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys anything with the old west, native americans, or just plain looking for some good entertainment!

Admittedly, this isn't my genre. I'm a romance reader at heart, so 99% of the books I read are by women. Read more

I enjoyed this book very much. Some of the dialogue was silly but the story moved right along and I found myself reading whenever I had a few moments.
