Book Description

In every generation, certain writers are chosen to be protectors of The Legendarium, a metaphysical library that exists at the nexus of the multiverse. Inside this library are doorways that lead to every world ever created in literature. There are forces of evil constantly at work to destroy the library and send the world back into an age of darkness. Now, in a time of growing illiteracy, two heroes are chosen to defend The Legendarium. Bombo Dawson, newly published author and the hero of Michael Bunker's novella Hugh Howey Must Die!, and Alistair Foley, aspiring author and Bombo's harshest critic, become unlikely partners in a mission to protect The Legendarium. Their adventures will take them across the worlds of literature, but will hostile enemies learn to work together before the accumulated knowledge of all of humanity is lost forever?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Legendarium is a madcap romp through some of literature's greatest works, at times oddly genius, mixed with a hilarious dose of buddy comedy barbs and witty retorts. You'll have a lot of fun riding along with Bombo and Alistair Foley during their adventures, but where Bunker and Summers really excel is the underlying commentary regarding the overwhelming power of literature to shape history." ~ USA TODAY Bestselling Author Ernie Lindsey

From the Author

LEGENDARIUM is the second Bombo Dawson adventure - after Hugh Howey Must Die! but the books can be read in any order.  LEGENDARIUM is also the first in a series of Bombo Dawson/Alistair Foley Legendarium adventures by Michael Bunker and Kevin G. Summers.

While much has been made about this being the second Bombo Dawson book, readers should not be put off thinking that they must read Hugh Howey Must Die before diving in to Legendarium. Bombo is wisely given a 'refresher' introduction to bring new readers into the fold. Bombo, and his nemesis Alistair Foley, are chosen to defend the Legendarium, a fantastic library that contains a portal into every world ever created by a book. Dark forces wish to destroy the Legendarium, and with it, the shared knowledge and experience that comes from reading - plunging the world into a new dark ages.

Using the Legendarium, Bombo and Alistair must travel through pivotal works of literature (both real and imagined) to learn how to defeat the forces of darkness threatening the great books. Along the way, they bicker their way through discussing books, the publishing industry, the impact of literature on our shared culture and whether the great works of the past could survive if published today. Legendarium is a quick read, funny (very funny), smart, full of great references (both subtle and gross) and has great points to make about big ideas, writing, reading and enjoying books.

While I've read many Michael Bunker books, this is my first exposure to Kevin G. Summers. It won't be my last. This collaboration should inspire many fans for both authors. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bombo is back and in a new adventure March 21, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bombo is back in this really interesting collaboration from Michael Bunker and Kevin Summers. The story starts where Hugh Howey Must Die ends, to introduce the main character Bombo Dawson. Although the book had a straightforward theme, I felt like I was reading a combination of Stephen King's Langoliers and Michael Ende's Neverending Story (meaning the story had adventure, the unknown, and a little bit of scare added to the mix). This book has it all: adventure, laughs, plot twists, and mentions of well known authors and their books. This was a fun book to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bombo is back and funnier than ever! March 21, 2014
By Hanna
Format:Kindle Edition
Ever since I read Michael Bunker's "Hugh Howey Must Die", I've been itching for more Bombo Dawson. This story doesn't disappoint in the slightest. Adding Alistair Foley to the mix is quite simply brilliant. The duo fit well together because they truly dislike one another, but find themselves working side-by-side to fix the Legendarium (a library unlike any other) before worlds collide and fall apart. However, they must first learn to work together and that's a tall order. Mainly, because Alistair thinks Bombo is a piss-poor writer and doesn't hesitate to leave a scathing review of Bombo's seminal work right before they're thrown together to save every world ever created through the written word, and in turn, our own.

You'll find a little bit of everything in Legendarium. For instance, if you enjoy fantastic writing, laughing out loud while you read and such things as libraries, books, adventures, bungling heroes who finally get it right after a whole lot of wrong, snappy dialogue, and characters whose flaws are all too believable and thus, endearing, this book is for you!

Congratulations, Michael and Kevin; yours was a match made in heaven, as opposed to Bombo and Alistair, their match must've been made in hell (I mean that in only the nicest way). Legendarium is such a fun read ... and I did catch that reference to Star Trek! Keep Bombo and Alistair stories coming ... we could all use more laughter in our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bunker and Summers are Brilliant April 24, 2014
Format:Paperback
In an entertaining and original story, Bunker and Summers take you through space and time winding through the pages of literature. The plot is not predicatable - so refreshing. They flawlessly weave in references to many of the great authors and their great tales. Many I knew and there were a few I admit I'll have to look up.

The result is thought-provoking. As I read I thought of even more authors; for example, when they appeared in Hemmingway's time, I half expected them to run into Dorothy Parker asking them "what fresh hell is this?" By the time I finished the book, I was thinking through the consequences of time and actions of every day of our lives.

It achieves for literature what the movie Russian Ark achieves for art and culture. In Russian Ark, the Marquis de Custine travels through time in the Hermitage Museum and brilliantly shows that the art and culture are worth preserving. In Legendarium, Bombo and Alistair show compellingly that reading is not just something we do - that it has had a profound effect on the outcomes of society and history - and should be protected as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The stars say it all...I love it!!! BOMBO LIVES!!! March 23, 2014
By Mieko*
Format:Kindle Edition
I chose 5 stars because they don't offer 6.

*Disclosure: I was given the book as a gift, but not for a review.

Why did I like it? Well how could I not?
I love multiverses and satire, and I have read all the classic books the two protagonists stumbled into. I am clueless about Russian Philosophers, but my education is progressing.
These guys brought back Bombo Dawson and Alistair Foley, bitter enemies. I really enjoyed Bombo in 'Hugh Howey Must Die' by Bunker, and now I can shake my head at Alistair, Kenneth G. Summers' literary invention, as he admits he doesn't read sci fi and has never heard of Hugh Howie or the Wool books !

OK I will say right off the bat, I do not generally like 101 page books..have been outspoken about it..but..if you can get a whirlwind of a story into 101 pages, then I have to pull down the stars for it.

This book is really a wild ride. Bombo and Alistair find themselves trapped in the worlds of those books and do their best not to make one of those 'changing the time and space continuum' mistakes and to find the way out as well. The exits..are the entrances into another dizzying literary experience. The duo bumped into several classic authors and fell into a few books; one was Alice in Wonderland and they ripped it. I dislike that book and have always thought it was about a drug trip. Bombo and Alistair wove their way through that dopey world, not succumbing to the ridiculousness of it, and then another door opened.
There are a lot of doors from one amazing literary experience to another.

Underlying all of it is the suggestion that if you can change a classic story to any great extent, you will change the world as we know it. Bombo and Alistair saved the Legendarium and the world!
