4.0 out of 5 stars Not Your 1980s LEGO Castle, December 29, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGOŽ Castle King's Castle Siege (Toy)
LEGO castles have been produced roughly every other year since the early 1980s and most of them have a trait that this one lacks: a base plate. That being said, I think that LEGO took the Castle series in a new direction with this move. Until this set, LEGO always released their castles on solid base plates with hills and valleys, making the castles seem formidable, while being constructed with less pieces and remaining static in nature. The new 2008 castle leaves the entire base on solid ground with detachable corners and walls and a removable tower, making the entire set far more variable, expanding play and display tremendously.

Another error of some castles have been the reuse of the same "generic" castle minifigures, often available in other smaller sets. While this is still the case here, the use of more faces has expanded the available minifig combinations. The inclusion of the red evil dragon also creates a feeling of newness with this castle, while at the same time providing a valid enemy for the castle folk. Four skeletons reinforce this feeling of good vs. evil (hence Castle Siege!).

Overall, I think that this is a very nice castle with many opportunities for expansion using other Castle sets and a level of variability not available since the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets castle. I would not consider it an advanced set, but it feels like a nearly complete set. The only criticism I really have is that the courtyard in the center of the castle feels very bare, much like Fort LEGOREDO in the late 1990s. Unlike LEGOREDO, however, there are many accessory sets that can help fill this space, especially the 2008 LEGO Advent Calendar (no longer available). Ultimately, I recommend this set for any fan of the LEGO Castle theme, but if you are seeking a castle like those of the 1980s and 90s, this will probably not satisfy you. This fortress is designed for a new age of LEGO Castles (II)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lego for my 6 year old, September 14, 2007
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGOŽ Castle King's Castle Siege (Toy)
My son got King's Castle Siege for his 6th birthday and it has been a huge hit. It took him about 3 days to put it all together. He continue to play with it because there are tons of details that are interesting (he got this along with the Skeleton Prison Cage) -- skeletons with swords, knights, dragon, castle secret doors. He uses his action figures to play in the castle, now (Power Rangers, Batman).

This is one of the better Lego's he's gotten. He is an avid "Legoer" and has enjoyed the Star Wars legos in the past, and this is a great addition.

5.0 out of 5 stars My son loves working with this toy!!!, January 7, 2009

My pre teen son absolutely LOVES working with this Lego set. It has allowed him to learn how to follow instructional diagrams and create his own building and fort designs. Although there seem to be a million little pieces, just make sure you have a storage bin for the extra pieces to go in as they make new types of figures. Great toy for the never ending imagination of creating great adventures!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent toy for builders, January 7, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars

As always, Lego brand offers great imagination, hours of building fun, and excellent directions. Even with over 950 pieces, my 6 year old son was able to follow all of the directions independently to build this fortress. Legos are much better than other "lego - type" building companies. I will recommend this product again and again.

My 7 year grandson loves to build. Age appropriate for sure. although his parents were hoping that it would take him a few days to assemble it only took him about 8 hours total. He loves it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun and not to hard to build, July 14, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: LEGOŽ Castle King's Castle Siege (Toy)
My seven year old son and I built this castle over four nights. This by far was our first big Lego project and it was wonderful. The instructions were the usual Lego format and easy to read.

I highly reccommend this product to seven year old kids and above. Also if your youngster has a little problem building (like mine), spend time with them and enjoy building or helping them with the instructions.

It was well worth the money invested into a wonderful and durable product. I would also reccommend due to the price perhaps grandma and grandpa could buy it or a group of people pitch in to buy it.

Enjoy and good luck on your purchase of this wonderful product.

My 8 year old son is thrilled with this Lego toy. He loved the challenge of building the castle. He built it in a few hours and has played with it for numerous more hours. He especially enjoys the moving gate and drawbridge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Siege of the Castle, August 19, 2008

Kings Castle Seige is a very fun toy! It has a wall that explodes, a drawbridge and a gate that comes down behind it, three catapults, and a bunch of other weapons. But there are not enough skeletons to actually call it a siege. But it is still fun. If you want the full effect, you should buy more things like the Siege Tower or the Knights Catapult, but give that to the skeletons. Overall it was very fun. It just needs a bit more figures.

This was a joint gift for my three oldest grandchildren. It has provided plenty of play time just to put it together. One of my grandsons told me it was their best Christmas present. (I'm glad, since it was the most expensive!) Fortunately, Legos are always durable and maintain their appeal over many years. All of my grandchildren, boys and girls alike, are enamored of castles, so this was a logical choice.
